they may have put some firepower in it, but with 0-60 in 4.7, it still falls flat at what it's trying to do... that is, run with the E55's/E63's and M5's.

I like what they are doing, finally a serious motor.

The XKR with this motor will be special, I'll definitely take a look. The new XJ as well.

Must be.....Plus whats the deal with that motor anyway, 5.0L with Roots blower?? Is that a Jag or Ford Mustang? It makes not decent power for 5L, but still waay behind an NA 6.3 or S85 V10. Its not even economical on fuel! 18.8mpg...my 4 yr old E55 gets that...Why would anyone buy this? for the looks

Make it a Hybrid with 30mpg......Give it the 5.4L from the shelby GT500 that gets 525rwhp with just a tune and air filter.

Just another Audi R8 I guess...

Uh, they had a 4.2 liter with a roots blower. What is the big deal now?

It is behind NA motors, but it isn't an NA motor, not a valid comparison.

Just another Audi R8? Huh?

R8.....You know, a car meant to be sold on looks alone...

5.0L with a roots blower CAN be compared to NA engines when your talking about 2 cars that occupy the same car market. "R" in jag speak is "AMG" or "M".

Bottom line---Poser car that's 4 years late.

But you can have it if you like it....put it beside your R8, 1990 Miata and Vespa scooter

How is a 500 hp supercharged V8 a poser car? You don't even have the details or the performance numbers. The aftermarket tuning should turn up some numbers that make E55's run and hide. If it responds to mods anything like the 5.4 liter supercharged Ford.

The R8 is a mid engine limited production car, I don't see the correlation. Not to mention it sells for over sticker, I suppose you made some kind of a stretch of an analogy.

I actually don't mind the new XF-R, the automotive world would be a bland place if there wasn't variety, and this one certainly looks different than the German irons.

510 bhp is behind Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi in terms of the bhp war - but Jaguar has always been just a bit different than its teutonic competitors.

I find the interior to be attractive in the picture, just hope the quality approaches that of the Audi - interior ambiance has been a Jaguar strength and it looks like they're continuing the tradition.

Another new car to look forward to at the April NYIAS...yee haa!

I was just thinking the exact opposite. Cool exterior but cheap looking interior. I do like the seats though. It's the dash and air vents that look cheap.

I'm glad you think 500hp is great....I did too....way back in 2003 when The E55 and M5 came out. Lets see how great you think it is when the next gen V8tt hit the streets.

Umm, is the v8tt out? What date is it coming? What are the specs? Ya, that is what I thought. Maybe you should stick to REALITY?

Ya, ok, a 500 hp supercharged V8 is weak. How many sedans are offering more power RIGHT NOW? Pretty short list.

I see no critical thinking ability.

The R8 offers way more than just looks.

What you fail to realize is that the next generation MB 63 amg cars will have around 550-560 hp at most. The days of insane power figures are ending due to pollution and gas consumption requirements. Could everyone make a 650 hp V8? Sure its easy but try making one that sips gas, does not pollute, is reliable, and manages to be completely refined. That's a more difficult tune. Everyone said the 63 was a step backwards but I considered it a huge step forward. So the idea of bad is purely relative to those who are buying the cars.

To call the 510 hp Jag a old car that's 4 years late to the game is not very true. The car likely handles far better than the W211 car and I bet it will hate more driver involvement. Don't get lost in the I NEED MORE POWER game like AMG did in 2003. Their long string of cars that were quick but complete devoid of driver involvement hurt them and they now are trying to change that and build cars that a driver might want to select.

I don't believe you guys are taking these factory acceleration numbers, this won't do 0-60 in 4.7 any more than the SL600 does 0-60 in 4.5. I bet its a 4.1, maybe even 4 flat. And how the hell is it a, um..."poser" car? What the hell does that even mean? And yes it's perfectly comparable, this is the same power AMG is getting out of a 6.2 NA, or a supercharged 5.5. And this car shares nothing with the old Jags that would break, not even the engine now. I would buy it, looks very nice.

your point about critical thinking??? I dont know exactly what the "problem" was that required critical thinking on this string?

My point was NOT that this car is weak----It was that it has no alluring traits to make one choose it over other cars other than looks. Its not the strongest in its class or even close....its heavy....its not super gas efficient...its a Jag; so its GARUNTEED not to be the most reliable....so why buy it?? All one can say is LOOKS.....

Do realize that the 1991 Ferrari 512TR---which is 25 year old design(close to 30?)--- is just as fast as the 2008 Audi R8. Isnt there something inherently wrong with that in your book??

The 2008 Audi R8 is a CHICK CAR!!
