I didn't see them throw down any VHT though. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Honestly, the last 3 times I was there (last time being March of 2008), I've never seen them spray VHT either

I've only been to Sac and with a cooler track I was hitting 1.96 & 1.97 enroute to 12.2 and this time around I could not break 2.0 but I still managed 12.3. So I guess if I could have hooked like I did in the past I "could" have run high 11's. My best 60' yesterday was 2.01. That's .05 slower than my best 60'. I know the car is capable of 11's stock but like Jesse said until then it's just a low 12 second car.

With good traction, you should be able to hit 1.7 60' time easily..... I've hit 1.8 on street tires in my 63 with much less torque. I think Mikey, enzom, and a couple of others are able to pull 1.7 60' time on street tires with good track prep. If you can pull a 1.7 60', you should be in the 11.80 to 11.90 range comfortably. You should try running the car at Infineon and see how it does compared to Sacramento

But what I want to clarify is this: in December, January, and February, Famoso usually has a DA very similar to Sacramento (-400 to +500 ft) but with much better traction. NHRA still runs full dragsters there (4 to 5 seconds at 250+ mph cars). However, we just happen to hit a heat wave on our last event (It was 73 F and parts of LA were actually 87 F....... it's hard to believe it got this hot in freakin January ).

Sacramento is a good track, but traction seems to be a hit or miss..... sometimes it's decent and sometimes it's not The stock E55 (Hammer Down) could not crack 2.0 due to traction. SLK55R had to start in 2nd gear to get 11s do you know how much slower second gear starts are? People using Mickey Thomsons don't have as big of a problem with traction as others, but not many running these tires

Anyways, I'm down with whichever track you guys choose.... it would be very hard to rent Infineon, but most of the other tracks seem to be more attainable. I've never tried Samoa, but I know it's DA and temps are even better than Sacramento..... I just don't know how traction is compared to Sacramento and Famoso.

I hear you Mo and I'm sure Famoso is a far better track then Sacramento but it usually takes a private event to run a Famoso, unless you're willing to only due a few runs during a 6-7 hour period. The point I was trying to make is that Sacramento may not be the best prepped track but on a good day records could be broken and it's open all year around for only $50. I guess I'm just loving Sacramento right now because the 2 times I went my car did well. I'm also quite positive when the day comes and I have bad traction at Sacramento I'll be saying the same things....

I'm just like you Mo, love the sport and willing to go where ever. There must be a fellow board member who could comment on Samoa, it sure would be a long ways for crappy traction...

Mo, these guys hitting the 60' times in the 1.7 are well seasoned veterans and for the average racer who hits the track up only a few times a year a 1.7 would be a very hard accomplishment to meet...right?

Let's just hit Infineon up and see how the track compares. Anyone who's interested let me know and I'm sure I could find the time. I think it's actually a little closer then Sacramento.... I'm sure it will be very crowded.

I guess if you're looking for something positive out of Sacramento, if you learn to launch your car there every else should be cake .

I ran on Nittos 555 streets tires, my best 60' was 1.790, then I ran a bunch of 1.8s, and a 1.795, but I was still loosing a little bit of traction, spining, at the gate, a few times, and that 1.790 was my best 60' ever. I'm ready when you guys are, I'm always down to go to the track, actually, I would love to visit Inf, since I've never been

Glad to hear you broke a PB, that always makes my day no matter what I'm doing....

Infineon, Sacramento...you name it and I'm sure we could get a few to go. I know Blueknight would be down for sure.

You're absolutely right..... the availability of Sacramento destroys Famoso...... to even get Famoso in these "off-season" months, we can not do it without a private rental, which is very costly compared to the $50 at Sacramento. Also, Famoso encounters decent DA only 3 months out of the year...... the other 9 months, the average temps are close to 100 F with very high DA

Like I said before...... to me, I don't really care where we meet..... I enjoy meeting you guys and spending the day with such a great group of car enthusiasts....

infineon

My problem with infineon is that test and tunes are on Weds. There is 0 chance of me making a weds meet. The 2nd issue is that they are significantly more strict on safety equipment etc. My understanding is that if you run under 12 you need a racing jacket as well.

I'm really curious now how Sac would run if we did do a private rental with significant prep.

track prep

Mo already explored this option and we would need to pay extra for VHT on top of the intial cost for the rental. Here's the link https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...-part-2-a.html

We will need to pay extra for VHT, but given that Sacramento is not busy at all, there is no need to pay for a private rental. Additional VHT + prep + ambulance came out to be just under $2k. We can just make arrangements with the track officials in advance to get additional prep on one of the open test n tune nights and pay extra for it. If we can get 20 guys to participate, then it'd only cost us $100 each + $50 for cover charge and viola..... we get a nicely prep track at good DA

vht

The question is really how much does the vht cost?

We don't need to do a private rental like you said. There weren't that many cars at all there.

The decision would really be do we pay for VHT for both lanes? Since we aren't doing private rental it might make sense to just splurge a bit and do both.

How often should VHT be applied to track and is it usually just the first 100' or more?

If we ended up going on a Test-N-Tune day why would we need to pay extra for the ambulance, shouldn't that already be included in the $50 race fee?

Yes, I would think that it is...... I was just quoting you guys what he quoted me for the private rental..... he didn't give me exact figures on the phone due to the incident I told you about on the phone. What I gathered from him was that additional VHT + additional prep would be between $1400 to $1600. Then ambulance fees + other fees, it came out to be just under $2k. I think that was for 2 lanes prepped by the way. I would assume one lane would cost half as much Since we're going on an open night test n tune, then I'd assume ambulance + insurance + all other stuff is already covered + some VHT is already covered. I'd guess that we would only need to pay for the difference of the extra VHT and extra prep in applying it. We may end up needing to pay only $700 or so extra

Either way, it is not really that expensive..... if they prep the track really good, it'd be worth the extra money spent IMO.

At Sac, the right lane needs only the first 100' but the left lane needs about the first 250'.....and that's a fact Jack!

I'm warming to the Sacremento idea and seems we have gotten some cold temps lately.

Maybe we can organize a trailer rental or something of that sort to make it possible for some of the others in SoCal to come up?

Nice run. Your 60' time is a lot better then my first and only day with DR's. I struggled big time at Famoso with them.

I was talking with Andrew as you did that run...I think. Was this your personal best?

Great job!

It sounds like traction was okay, it's only a test n tune day. I'm sure track prep might be better with a track event.

Both times I went to Sacramento my best times came around the same time as SLK55R...14:00. Then again I can't really say anything because I'm the one who initiated the little meet and didn't show up !

Glad you had a great time Nick, I'm just sad I didn't make it. You mentioned that the MB's were the biggest group out there, how many showed up? I also invited a few from mymbonline.com, did you happen to meet any of them? Not sure what their names are though....

Let's setup another date soon before the weather starts warming up. Next time I'll be there for sure.

BallzyS55 - Did you run your 1.79 on DR's or street tires? What's your best 60' time to date? I'm glad everyone had a great time and apologize once again for being a flake. It was somewhat out of my hand though.

If anyone has a suggestion or recommendation for the next track day let's set it up. The weather will start getting warmer so lets do it soon.

If I recall, there were 6 of us Benz guys out there... although I dont think Greek ran his 500...

Yeah...Andrew is a true enthusiast who just likes hanging out. The 2nd time I went up he came by just to keep me company...great guy! I'm sure if he ever ends up getting a E55 or something similar he'll be mixing it up with us. His E500 is one clean a$$ car, I wish mine looked that nice. See you at the next meet Andrew.

Great idea. Do you have any idea what brand you're going with or is it still up in the air?

I'm hoping to have a very special mod done the next time I run, all I can say is that people have been waiting for this one a long time. We'll see and hopefully it happens!
