Maintenance Interval on Airmatic Filter?

Anyone know the scheduled maintenance interval on the air filter for the semi-active airmatic suspension in the E55? MB lists it as a "fast moving" part, but I don't see any mention of it in the Service Sheet, nor could I find the repair instructions for it in WIS.

I'm not real interested in cracking open the airmatic system, but if this filter needs to be replaced at some point, I'd like to know when that's supposed to be. It's #100 in the diagram:

Part # 130 goes out for me much faster and they replaced the entire pump assembly, if that is the part that is in the driver side fender.


That filter should not be too hard to get to but I wonder if MB even sells it?

Sure they do. It's part number 220 320 00 69.

komp55, did you ever get and replace this filter? I wonder if its always under pressure unless the system is disabled by STAR.

I was working in this area of the car, saw the filter (didnt even know about it), and saw it online for 6 bucks. I'm wondering if I should get it as long as I'm ordering other parts.

No, I chickened out, determining that I didn't want to open up the air system until it breaks. If (or more likely, when) one of my air shocks goes out, I'll have them replace the filter as part of the repair.

While I was under the car last night, I examined the hose leading to the filter. Its not under pressure, I could easily squeeze it with my fingers. So given that and the easy location, it should be a simple replacement if desired.

Airmatic Pump and filter location

hope its ok to raise this thread again,

sometimes my pump is noisy and vibrates when I raise the car via the button, mainly on first start up when the car is cold.


where in the front of the car is the airmatic pump and filter,
I really want to give it a service/filter/clean

The pump is behind the left foglight, but it turns out what MB calls a filter is not really a filter. I was chatting with a tech about it, and he said its more of a muffler to keep the noise down, not a maintenance item.

thanks for the info

It vibrates so much that its really noticeable inside the car, maybe their is a problem with the rubber mounts? I doubt its that simple as it never seems to be with this car.

I have seen what they look like off the car and it is possible to take some of the casing off (£230 new for a non genuine one).
I will remove and then see if its possible to get to the internals safely to check/clean up.

You never know until you look. For the entire time I've owned mine, the bladders in the passenger seat wouldnt inflate. I thought it was something serious and expensive, today I found out that the pneumatic hose just had a kink.

in complete agreement with you,

I would rather check myself than be told by a garage that the whole unit needs to be replaced, as that's always the most cost effective way for them.

but for us its just time spent........
