M mode is the fastest shifting...but timing it perfectly is almost impossible...thus most people stick with the S mode and manually downshift to the lowest gear before punching it.

So if you are in S mode, you can still downshift yourself via the paddle or shifter to the lowest gear possible and then the car will do the rest for you?
What are you guys choosing for the following scenarios in terms of optimum gear and rpm selection:
40mph onwards, what revs and gear?
60mph onwards, what revs and gear?
80mph onwards, what revs and gear

I have found that in M mode, my vehicle will downshift faster however it seems to be a little jolty. In S mode my car seems to hesitate for a second before downshifting.
Upshifting, I don't seem to see such a noticeable difference.

have been suing manual mode a little more recently and it shifts harder and is more notcible at higher speeds. Soem of you should give it a try. Yes S mode is easier and safe but if you are doing rolling races then M is possible
and it is calimed to shift faster, but i gues due to the delay when you click and the shift , we assume its slower, but the actul shift and change gear speed seems to be faster
any thoughts?

the reason renntech has the speed shift tune is because it takes 1.1 to shift in M mode and with the speed tune it goes to .4 i had it in my car and damn it shifted fast but the tune was wrong so they are making a costume tune for me now with the speed shift in it...the new 63's shift at the .4 already
replaces ur current c/s/m with S/m1/m2
I think it is simular to or close to CLK DTM and SLR shifts and its a TCU mod
as for the 63 hmm am not sure

i don't think it's something that comes from amg .. the trannys are what they are if that was the case alot of ppl would be at the dealership getting it done .. i have checked and used it on my car from renntech and i know it works well

AMG does not do this for US vehicles due to the many legal and DOT certification issues. One of the many pitfalls for living in such a litigious society.

S mode will give automatic and reliable shifts at or near redline everytime. However, in M mode, the shift quickness (gearchange) is faster. But, the drawback in M mode is you have to shift and if you miss judge the redline (very easy to do in first and second) you will bump the rev limiter and loose time. For the 63 cars, I think, but I could be wrong....that the gearchange in M mode happens 30% faster than in S mode.

ok, I was in S mode tonight and downshifted myself, the E took off like a bat out of hell. I ran out off space so I had to shut down but would the tranny have upshifted itself to the next gear?

Correct.....as long as you are still in S mode. You can downshift manually in S mode then let the auto box do the upshifting. The only thing I don't like about driving in S mode is that the tranny reacts to throttle position and many times I like to short shift and use WOT and hold the same gear which you cannot do in S mode.

AMG performance studio, (cost EU 1.362,55), btu that was then...maybe cheaper now
Yes it is, here are just a few of the things they offer Technology / Exterior wise: ( this is taken from their own catilog:
AMG Drivers Package (1) (Must comply with national homologation.)
top speed raised to 300 km/h, incl. TÜV approval (1) and AMG Driver Training "power and passion"
AMG Speedshift Plus (3) (Only in combination with AMG Speedshift 5-speed automatic transmission)
two different shift programmes (M1/M2) with shortened shift times
additional selector assembled in the center console
shift paddles (brushed aluminium)
TÜV- approval and Installation
AMG Differential lock (for 55, but not offical, but the one below for the 63 one also fits am told)
multiple-disc limited-slip differential 30% incl. modified rear differential side shafts
AMG Differential lock (for 63)
multiple-disc limited-slip differential 40%
AMG high performance braking system
consisting of:
8-piston brake calliper and internally ventilated composite brake discs (380/36 mm) front
note: 19"
hence why i said rolling speed in M mode is good, some of you should give it a try n let her rip all the way up to high speeds and them tell me what you think

Thanks guys this is awesome to a new E55 owner like myself. Close encounters I will keep her in s mode, down shift myself and let the tranny work it's magic from there.
