This means they do NOT take the TCU out for a complete flash. However, I've yet to confirm this, and will try to get a definite answer in the next couple of days.
Whether or not "through the ECU" or not, I can 100% confirm that the TCU can be programmed through the same port under the dash that is used to program the ECU.

As a result of the same experience, I found that the TCU datalogs at least temperature, and accepts programming about 3 times faster than the ECU.

I was also told that the TCU would adapt from where it was to where it needs to be in about 1 lap of Laguna Seca.

Here's another thing I've experienced with MHP and I don't hear people talking about. andy say's his price is so high because of the massive amount of time it takes to tune an ECU TCU 40hours+ if that were true how could he receive the ECU TCU on Tuesday and ship it out Wednesday

I believe he is talking R&D hours...once they know the tables and values, it is pretty simple from there.

Thanks Jon for the clarification...... I may have mis-understood the technician then. He told me that they can flash the TCU without removing the TCU (or anything eles) out of the car, and I was under the impression that anything connected to the OBDII port goes through the ECU first. I will try to go to the dealer and actually watch him re-flash my TCU and see if it's through the ECU itself or not hopefully in the next few days

By the way, are you sure that the necessary adaptations are usually complete after 1 lap only?

no he has said it many times each tune is custom and you cant just take a ready made file and load it into the tcu.

I thought he said customizing the table data (adjusting variables and what not based on the mods somebody has on their cars) is what takes time not the actual flash process itself

I wish we could get some kind of clarification from the MHP team at least on what's going on.....

I do remember him saying this also, but I also remember questioning this as it only makes sense that the same cars with the same mods can easily get the same tune plus any additional tuning with the shiftpoints or RPMs.

I just don't think he wanted to admit this as his custom tuning is a nice sales pitch.
