There are at least two ways to affect a change in the code on an ME97 (ecu).

(1)
The OBDii approach which is what DAS (dealer tool) does. The ECU stays in the car (it can be done on the bench but it is painful as the ecu is doing "boot loops" so establishing communications is difficult) and all work is performed though the diagnostics port.

Use microcontroller development tools that attach to a port on the printed circuit board and read/write the two different memory areas.
