Does anyone know a decent data logging program I can download on my laptop.
I know stuff like nitrod and dashdaq they are in the 350-400 price range.
I am looking for a software that I can download and install on my laptop and connect the laptop to the car via OBDII and see all the parameters.
This not for tuning or anything like that. I would just like to see my engine parameters from time to time.

 

Auto Enginuity is the one I would recommend and many guys here use.

Just know up front that our OBDII systems are about the slowest on the planet. You will only be able to log 2 parameters, 3 tops at once. Even with that you will only get one or 2 samples per second. Some guys get a bit more, some get less.

Best part about Auto Eng. is that they are coming out with a system that will act very much like Star at your dealer. Should be able to do quite a bit with it.

Does AutoIngenuity read Air fuel ratios on your car thru OBDII? or you actually need a meter integrated in your exhaust for that? just a thought...

 

You need a meter and that is a big one. That is one reason I was going with just a datalogger...

 

I use Nology and I have run up to 6 parameters at once but I'm not sure what the sample rate per second is.

How much would a meter for A/F cost?

 

I use an LM unit on my other cars to check a\f and I also use autoenginuty. The sample rate is slow (tech 2 is the best) but it gives you a good idea as to how you IAT's, fuel trim, etc..

 

so this means our OBDII doesn't give AFR even through Star ?

 

As far as I know, they do not. Itr gets the O2 sensor readings but I also do not know what else the ECU responds to.

I hear the best A/F data is to stick an external pole into the tailpipe, so I figured I would have on installed in the exhaust somewhere. I also want a psi readout, etc. etc. but I want hi data rates so I can make better use of a dyno 1/4mile run.

 

sticking the external pole into the tail is what they did when I dynoed, but for sure you cannot have that thing permaently attached to your car..
an additional wideband sensor should be correctly placed before cats.

yes, psi is there, but again the data rate from the OBDII is so slow that I wouldn't mind another system.

Yes, some either drive around with the tube in their tailpipe or add a sensor. I'm hoping to just add a sensor.

 

A/F ratio must be read pre cats for accuracy, so if you have access to wideband sensors, you really need one on each header collector. How about a multifunction gauge that will read A/F ratio, and boost along with a couple other values you might find valuable?

I use the basic zeitronix Zt-2($252) then added a boost sensor and wideband o2 sensor. I use the software they provide with my laptop at the track or also can use palm pilot. They do have the DashDaq fancy model for $699 that does plug in to your OBDII port. Here's where I got mine from. It is actually pretty easy to install, besides having the muffler shop install the o2 bung.
