2006 E55 Wagon (RIP), 2019 E63S Wagon (Sold) 2023 AMG GT634S
What a terrible thing - and it also goes to show that buying a repo at auction is probably a BAD thing.
Even if the car was pristine when it was taken - it sure as heck won't be after the thugs at the recovery and / or auction companies get through with it.
No wonder manufacturers void the warranty on repo'd cars.
Do you have condition / inventory reports as another poster suggested here to say where the damage occurred? Was it done by the repo folks BEFORE turning it over to Manheim, or at Manheim? I would expect that the auction folks detail how the car was brought in and could at least narrow it down. My guess is the repo folks.
For anyone that stuck up for them as "just doing their job" - it looks like they did a little more than "their job" to me. And THAT is why they get a bad name. tow the car, treat it decently, drop it off - that's their JOB. This is criminal.
Hope it all works out and please keep us posted.
Your story restored faith in the online "community" and destroyed it for anyone dealing with the repo industry.

I don't understand these guys who did the repo. Regardless of who takes possession, the owner of the car (MB Financial or otherwise) is going to notice the damage. If the driver doesn't regain possession of the car, and I would assume most repo's end up that way, does the repo guy simply claim the car was like that when he hooked it?

So you were in the part-time weekend Langone program and not in residence at Stern? I have fond memories of teaching at NYU and met a lot of nice people there.
Cheers.

I am glad you got your car back, even if they just got the money and the gun it was no reason to trash the car like that.

Josh,
I received payment yesterday including interest. I didn't ask for my money back, so it surprised me to see it.
You are a class act and i'm glad i could help.
Keep us posted on the process....that video disgusts me. I can't even imagine.

Well, first of all... congrats for getting your car back. If I were you, I wouldn't know whether I should cringe or have happy tears... You must've loved that car so much that you still want to take the car back (I don't think you could undo blemishes in your credit report?
).
But wow... just wow... How the heck did they do so many damages in so little time? I would understand if they trashed the wheels from careless parking... and trashed the front spoiler from towing the car (I think the towing company may not be the same as repo company) but all the interior damages?
To me, they were all intentional... or more like personal vendetta to you. Heck, I've never even done that to any of rental cars no matter how careless I am.
But either way.... if you look from positive side, flat tires = no speeding ticket
LOL...

Thanks guys,
Car is at the dealership (Calstar) in Glendale, this is close to work.
I have two insurance calims ,
1. The tow and wheels are considered (Collision)
2. The interior is (comprehensive) This one is tricky and required a recorded statement.
The question is do they do this intentionally to knock the price down at auction?
I seem to have been the rare person that redeems. Thanks to the members quick help and timing we got it done. The car was absolutely a mess and it was worse after we went over it at the dealer.
I noticed the shift plate was cracked and had been pryed open, wonder what is under the shift plate??
Also the spoiler is cracked in the middle, the dealer is checking suspension and brakes as we know the car was dragged against 2 sides of the driveway and also brakes were on as I park on a sloped driveway.
The gun was legal and I was cleared by LAPD, so that was a huge relief. I was nervous thinking soon as I go in they were gonna book me.. Thanks to LAPD, Hollywood Division for doing such a detailed report on the car and its contents.
There were NO DAMAGE REPORTS given to me by the RA or Manheim, I filled one out for Manheim as I was leaving. So this damage likely happened the day it was taken, the car definately was not "ready" for auction. I think it would be illegal to sell it in that condition.

Josh, I'm planning on taking my car in the Calstar for a warranty wind noise fix this week. I wonder if I'll be able to see it from the service area. If they parked it in the back it's probably visible from the street, no? How long is your car going to be there?

4 wheeled car.
I figured it out why the car was all trashed inside:
That THING was looking for bread crumbs to eat.
