Oil Catch Can - Is It worth it?
Is it worth installing a oil catch can. I have been reading about oil from the valve covers being sucked into the intake tract.
they are pretty inexpensive and easy to install.

Catch cans are never a bad idea. I like breather tanks. Same concept as a catch can but it has a filter on top, so the crankcase pressure can escape the canister. The best setup would be a belt driven vacuum pump. (I have seen these work very well on high compression NA motors) Now that will just suck out all pressure and excess oil that is robbing power from your engine. But it might be a bit advanced at this time in the modding game for our cars.
If oil gets sucked into your intake tract and makes its way into the combustion chamber. That could cost you a tad bit of hp. (lowers octane rating)
Ultimately it depends on how much windage (crankcase pressure) your engine creates. Most valve covers have a built in baffle inside that should catch the oil. But in some cases it can slip by.

Definietly had more than one person take off the top end to be stunned by the amount of oil so I say go for it.
Not essential though. More info for ya below

right after i replaced my tb with the larger version and got to see how much oil gets circulated back into our intake, i immediately installed a catch can. it's not one of the big "power" mods but it's still well worth the trouble.

We've put Catch Cans on a bunch of MB cars lately. We use the Vibrant Performance Can and AN Fittings with Push-On hose. We can piece together a custom kit for you based on your needs.
Shoot me a PM or email and I'll be happy to go over prices.
The Universal kit that covers all three outlets on the Valve covers and inlets for the vacuum is 309.00 with AN fittings. If you wanted to go barbed fittings instead I can drop about 100.00 off of that price.

I've attached pics of the can on a C43.
There's a thread called S500 Catch Can, that has it installed on a S500.

I've run the Huskys on my track car for a while, they just look kinda tacky on a benz. If you really want to save there are some discount hardware stores that sell them for a few bucks.

in terms of the husky filters do you run 2 of them one for each bank or can you use a T to connect both banks to one filter.

Lowe's sells little air/oil filter separators for air compressors around where their air compressors are. The one I use is about 4 inches long and an inch wide. It has a a glass strainer which is really cool that you can see the oil it has cached. Plus, you just unscrew the glass off it to easily empty the oil out. It has a tea fittng on the top with a check valve inside it so there is an in and a out. All you need to do is get one of these then go to autozone and get some gas line tubing that will fit on the ends. Get a few little clamps that will tighten the gas line down to the ends of the car. Here is the thread I used years ago to get mine. These are the exact same parts I use.

Not bad for $25 total Oh, I modified mine from that guys. I took the white stuff out of mine (not necessary) and I did not use toilet tubing lol. I like the look of black gas line hose. Looks more factory.

Liquiddi can we use one of the filters for both bank or one for each bank since the filter is small.
I went to lowes and saw the filter would it be advisable to remove to the golden portion in the filter to make it more unrestrictive.
Thanks

I don't use that filter that you see inside the canister. I took all of that stuff out. All I use is the clear plastic part you see. The oil goes in and gravity takes it to the bottom. In my old C5 corvette I would have maybe an inch of oil in it after 3 months of driving. It holds a lot of oil. It works great and it is cheap. I don't think you will need 2 of them for both banks. I'm not sure though considering I'm not running anything on my Merc yet. Granted my Merc has 2500 miles on it and it has burned over 2 quarts of oil already. Yikes!!! lol Oh, yes it will make it much more unrestricted removing the golden portion in the middle

yeah, I'm a bit concerned about my E63. I have never owned a car that has burned that much oil. I'm hoping it is a break in thing and dyno oil burning off. We will see. Once you get yours done, post up some pics so I know how to do mine lol. I'm not real familiar with Mercedes Engines.
