quick update

after 1 month of ordering my service contract 3yr/unlimited miles./

i took the car in for rear suspension noise, headlamp not adjusting and head rest motor not working ..

drop off the car on Tuesday. By Thursday the dealer has full approval for all the parts.

I got all 4 new shocks, 2 front struts, bushings, new driver headlamp and new motor for the head rest..

$4100 worth of repairs for $100 deductible.

I have paid $500 out of $3100 policy.

NO issues what so ever with this warranty at Penske MB West Covina.

I doubt the policy would be affected by the BK, i'm sure the they will find a way to honor those contracts. But if they are cancelled.. i got more than my monies worth.

That's a great experience. For $4100 worth of repairs, any other 3rd party company would have required an in-person inspector from the warranty company. That guy would have spotted our mods and would find any reason to deny the claim. Another thumbs up for Chrysler!

Are you talking about the Airmatic struts and shocks? I didn't know those would be covered.

I will post the part numbers later tonight.. I don't know and the work description did not say. Its just said struts and shocks.

I'm working the dealer to call Chrysler for the other headlight replacement to match the new one.

The car looks so much nicer with the new headlight.

As far as what's covered, the chrysler coverage is what's called "exclusionary" coverage, the best. Meaning that they can exclude ONLY what they specifically identify as such and they say as much in the policy.

this is unlike what you may see elsewhere, where a policy states what's covered with a less-than-inclusive list, but doesn't specifically state what is not covered, so that there is left a potentially huge list of may or may not be covered items.

I just got some paperwork from Chrysler 2 days ago. It was an invoice and an "Interest Free Payment Plan Disclosure Statement." The new contract date was April 6 and I recieved this in my April 24th mail.

There was a note in the disclosure statement about...

"Under separate cover, you will receive the Plan Provisions of your DaimlerChrysler Service Contract. You should reveive your Plan Provisions in approximately 60 days..."

I am assuming the exclusionary list is under the Plan Provisions and that 60 days means from April 6.

Jon

PS...When I made my last payment, I asked the billing specialist at Chrysler about the effect of the restructuring on the extended warranties. She said "no effect per headquarters..." I asked for any written memo but she said she didn't have anything in writing...definately company line.

find a warranty company that covers this much without an inspection. It was almost ludicrous to do it without an inspection. So there is no weakness in my opinion.

That said, I would really like my documents. I feel like I spoke with todd forever ago.

I just checked, I originally purchased the warranty on March 24. That puts me at almost 5 weeks with no documents. I haven't made a payment either, so I'm sure they will be wanting their money.

Time for me to call Todd in the morning.

When I spoke to the financing woman regarding mine, she said she was afraid and was just hoping she wasn't going to lose her job as she worked at chrysler financial which was under the umbrella of the entire company. I asked her if her branch (which covers my warranty) was separate from the company having trouble and she said it was all part of the same company.

I bought mine back in 2006 when none of this stuff was going on. It surprising to see so many people buying these warrantys today given what is going on in the news.

i am considering buying an 03 e55 with 57k miles.

Only problem the car needs the following to be performed (according to mercedes):

Valve cover gasket, price with labor: $476.50
Front brake pads, price with labor: $453.50
Trans service and pilot bushing, price with labor: $433.50
B service, price with labor: $499.95

Total:$2,035.01

it also needs a full set of tires, but i am considering putting 19's or 20's on it anyways so that doesnt really matter as much as the other stuff listed above.

the above is bad yes, but the good thing is the car kbb's for $30,xxx; and i got them down to $22,000

Just spoke with Todd.

He stated that if I don't get my docs by next week to call, despite my coverage being active.

I asked about the ch. 11, and he stated that he didn't "think" these service contracts would be affected, but he could not make any guarantees. (fwiw, I'm paraphrasing).

I'd say its a crapshoot as to whether these policies get canceled.

Chrysler will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New York, giving Chrysler time to galvanize a partnership with the Italian car maker Fiat Group SpA. The government, which has already poured $4 billion in loans into Chrysler, would provide up to $8 billion more to carry the company through bankruptcy, said senior administration officials speaking on condition of anonymity. The government will also help appoint a new board of directors.

The deals give Chrysler "a new lease on life," President Barack Obama said.
"This is not a sign of weakness," he said. "I have eery confidence that Chrysler will emerge from this process stronger and more competitive."

I hope Obama's clarification provides some comfort for everyone.

doesn't matter (and duh, of course its a sign of weakness).

If we are considered creditors, there is a good chance we get nothing.
