2006 E55 AMG
Any chance strength is compromised when going with a lighter weight pulley?

Obsidian,

Did you end up going with the 172mm or 180mm?

Is there a very noticeable difference in power?

Have you had it tuned yet?

And bump to his question, how much more boost on the 172mm and a 180mm?

Josh

good question.. i would like to hear more about the comparison -- i know the 180 makes between 10-15 more to the wheels.. but I am worried with the 180 with overheating issues.. for the guys with the 180 do you have a heat exchanger? I mean for 12 rwhp difference at 450+ levels.. it really isnt much and for not overheating it would be worth it IMO.. other comments on the 180 would be great cause making more power is good, I just don't want to overheat or have issues with that much boost.

I went with the 172mm. Definately noticable, but i really need the tune.. Sometimes the cars an animal, other times it just feels a little stronger. IC pump is new..

I'd be interested in this, but I have a few questions.

1. What is the HP/TQ (wheels OR crank) difference between the 172mm and 180mm pulley? Assuming an applicable tune is performed for each pulley.

2. Is an upgraded heat exchanger absolutely required for a 180mm pulley? What are the consequences if this is not done?

3. I saw the thread where the stock IC pump & CM30 were compared and there were absolutely no flow differences. Does this mean you could run an upgraded pulley w/ stock IC pump without any issues?

4. How obvious is it to the dealer that the pulley has been upgraded? I am on a CPO warranty and I would like to keep it, but I'd also really like to upgrade my car. If I change to a 172 or 180 pulley, will the dealer be able to tell? What about w/ the software tune?

Thanks!

After having both I think I can answer a couple questions for you..

1. My butt dyno tells me there is a noticeable difference between the two.

2. Yes, your engine will not be happy without upgraded cooling.

3. It is the same flow, but stock ones are known to go out.

4. Software tune they are not able to tell. The pulley will not be noticed unless a problem directly arises from it, or if the techs want to be a bothersome, they can say no to servicing the car.... just build a good relation with your service advisor and you shouldnt have issues!

Hope this helps,
Aleks

Is an upgraded heat exchanger extremely obvious to the dealer/service department? I'd like to get a 180, but it requires an upgraded H/E, and if the dealer can tell my H/E isn't stock, they may deny me warranty service. If that's the case, I'd just go with a 172 or 178.

Sorry for the delay, but here is a recent dyno graph of an E55 with the 172 pulley, HE, CM30 and our software.

My car stock does 411whp on a dynojet. How much whp gain would I get with a let tune/172mm. I have the cm30 pump.
