My E55 brakes (oem pads) squeeks. Do the E63 brakes squeek as well?

FYI, Porterfield offers a 20% discount to many car club members. I just ordered a new set of R4-S pads all the way around and got the 20% off.

They are fantastic pads!

2014 GL 350 on order
I really wanted to use the Porterfield pads but when they were installed the had 2 problems:
1. Weird metallic rattle that would not stop
2. No where to place the wear sensor.
I sent them back-any changes now to address those issues?

Both are squeekers.

I don't remember the details, I talked to the AMG tech, you should be able to find out elsewhere on the forms on from some google, but heres what I do know.

63 brakes are multi-peice, you need multi-peice pads, 55's are a single piece.
63: 360mm/6piston front and 330/4 rear. (Aluminum hubs with ferrous rotors)

1. Probably have a problem with some incorrectly installed hardware.

2. They do not have provisions for the wear sensors like most performance pads. You simply take the old sensors (which you are supposed to discard at every pad change anyway), cut them at the plug, solder the wires together to bridge the plug, and connect it back to the cars harness for the pad wear sensor. You can also use nylon wire ties to secure the unused sensor away from the caliper if you don't want to do the above but it is not nearly as clean.

That's the easiest way, for sure.

But if you just have to have a working warning light, then some guys use a Dremel and make a hole in the new pad for the sensor, using the old one as a template. Seems to work fine.

The light thing doesn't bother me, I can usually tell the brakes are getting ready for replacement by sound and pedal feel, way before the light ever comes on. So I wouldn't care about the sensors.

I recently went to Akebono Ceramic pads and they are great so far. No dust, no squeeks, no complaints

Akebono EUR984 Rear Ceramic Pads
Akebono EUR983 Front Disc Brake Pads

not to sure how to read those notes but what i can tell you is..

each one of the front calipers fit 4 brake pads for a total of 8 in a set. each one of the rear calipers fit 2 for a total 4 of in a set. best bet is to get an EBC part number and order by it.

this is directly from the ebc website for a W211 E55 amg

Part # Description
DP31490C EBC Redstuff Fast Street; Disc Pads; Rear;
DP31486C EBC Redstuff Fast Street; Disc Pads; 8 Pad Set; Front;
DP41486R EBC Yellowstuff High Friction; Disc Pads; Front;
DP41490R EBC Yellowstuff High Friction; Disc Pads; Rear;

I did the EBC Redstuff pads and not 100% convinced as the best I could have bought. They squeel like a train stopping for the first few hundred miles and while the brake dust is less, but still significant. They do stop well but then again, so did the OEM pads IMO. I have not tracked to car to make a comparision on that front.

Given the opportunity to do it again, I would probably go with something like porterfields since they are reported to have zero dust (if that is possible). The dust ruins my rims and looks aweful. I would have liked something that throws significantly less dust.

Very suprising to me about the squealing. I have used them on many cars, including my AMG and NEVER heard a peep out of them. I did have a friend on this board say the same thing as you just did, but when I informed him about proper bedding, they stopped squealing. If you bedded them in, and then they still squeal, I am at a loss.
As far as the dusting, they were NOTICABLY less than stock, and this showed up to a MUCH greater extend after a track day, aka roadrace. You must have a VERY low threshold for dust my friend. Which I can understand on a good set of rims

See yeah

PS: I have had six cars now on EBC redstuff without ANY squealing.

Fair is fair, and I respect that my friend.

But can you say that Akebono's can handle a road course, I can for the EBC's

I realalize that not many here really care about that, but for me I always try to sneak out whenever posiable.

See yeah

EBC red stuff is $225 plus shipping for the front and rears for the 55's

The list of aftermarket pads for the 63 are very very slim.

I have been researching brake pads for my E63, who sells the after market pads whether they be EBC, Akebono or Porterfields? They are hard to find on the internet for this car.

Thanks
