AMG block build specifications?

Anyone know where you can find the AMG detailed block build up / assembly specifications? Bearing tolerances, etc. etc?

My STAR CD just does not seem to go into those details.

Not a good question, hope all is ok. FYI pistons are available separately now.

I don't think mb would release detailed specs and tolerences for their motors.
It would be good to know.

It seems there have been people building motors on this forum with forged pistons. What clearances and bearings tolerances do they go by? Their old stroker Vette build specs from the late 90`s?

Why is there so much animosity towards Corvettes around here? Is it engine envy?

I have a Technical Data Manual(a rediculiously overpriced book), PM me what info you need, I can get it to you. I do need your engine number though to get the correct info. I can get the number by your vin if you don't know it.

Whatcha up to? Sounds interesting... Someone has to have these specs in a service manual or something? If your going to rev the **** out of the motor I would loosen up the tolerances a tad.

I would not run any less then .0015 thousands of an inch oil clearance for the rod bearings and .002 - .0022 thousands of an inch oil clearance for the main bearings.

Would you be able to look up older models such as 01 CLK55?

His shop in South Florida rebuilt my engine last year and added the VRP cam...He should have some information that might be helpful.

I agree with your specs for our engines, but its funny for a Ford 302, the rod clearance was a tad tighter, aka .0008, while the mains were a little loser at .0035 and that was on a cast crank with forged rods.

Neet thread for us engine junkies

See yeah

We here use the Metric system. Leave the inch stuff to Ford.

When you had your engine rebuilt, did you go with stock or custom forged pistons? Did you stay with stock alumisil coated cylinders, or did you have the cylinders re-coated with say Nikasil? Better yet, did you go with some large siamese iron sleeves and custom crank, rods and oversized pistons for a large Litre motor?

It seems a custom large litre motor can cost less than messing with mostly factory MB parts..

At that point, I guess factory specs would be pretty much obsolete..

Yup, actually, almost all M112 and M113 engines have the same torque specs and tolerences. Let me know what you are looking for.

Haha, not quite... The engine builders and machinists I've come across state side use inches for all types of engine bearing clearances. I still use MM frequently though, say measuring a throttle body or cylinder bore. But, for really small stuff reading in thousands of an inch is easier and seems more precise.
