Question Painting the roof Black

What do you guys think about painting the roof black on the E55 to simulate the look of a Panaramic Roof?

Do you think it'll look tacky?

Yes its tacky...IMO.

I know a few members here have done it and I actually don't think it looks bad. I just don't think it fits a benz, let alone an AMG.

2 cents

i've seen it...and it looks ok. do yourself a favor and vinyl it first. shouldn't cost too much and you can pull it off if you don't like it. actually, it will probably look good enough to stay with the vinyl for quite a while if you like it.

It is totally ghetto on an AMG but you can do it without ruining the car. Look into a matte finish vinyl wrap as a skilled installer can make it look perfect and it is 100% reversible back to stock for the next owner.

Thumbs down

I vote NO

Why? Because it will NEVER look like you want it, glass vs. metal... You just aren't going to be happy with any result.

Magicly, it would look the same! I'd still say no, not worth it, costly and such.

Just my .02, but I liken it to putting a satellite radio bubble on the trunk but not having satellite radio. If you like the 2 tone look of a black roof, then fine, I guess. But if you are doing it only to make it look like it has a pano roof, then no. It's borderline poser IMO. Bottom line though, it's your car. Do with it what makes you happy.

don't do it, it's tacky as hell. What, you couldn't afford a pano roofed E55 or something? You'll look really dumb when a girl is in your car and asks to see the pano roof in action.

Don't do it.

roof

if you want to do it, do it. It looks great. IN most cases you really can't tell the difference from pano or a black roof.

I wanted pano on my car but couldn't find one in time. Pano is a waste of money and it adds a bunch of wieght to your car. Most people like pano because of the look not the little small opening in the rear. Who sits in the back of the car anyways and why do you care what they see when they look up.

I am considering doing the same thing, go for it and post some pics

Sometimes it's not always a money thing

Regardless of his situation or why he has the car he has, I think he's simply after the look. I agree though, trying to fool others is not a good reason to do it. I personally prefer the black roof, so regardless of having pano or not, I would be after the black roof. Its about customization and obtaining the look you want, not necessarilly to be like 'you'. Also, I don't know of many females that can get in an E55 and and get into a debate about pano vs. non-pano

My vote, vinyl it and see if you like it.

I'd like to see that as much as I like seeing Jettas here in ATL running around with ski racks on their roofs in mid-Summer

After looking at it through the pics, I am concluding that it looks extremely tacky. I think it'll look quite odd on the Pewter Silver too.

My price was a hookup but it should be anywhere from 400 to 600 at the most.

To each his own, but I find it funny how often "poser threads" pop up in here when so many members are rocking the black roof.

That being said, I have been vocal about my dislike of poser threads. I don't have any problem with people putting AMG badges on non-AMG cars, etc. The way I see it, its all customization and people should do to their cars whatever makes them enjoy it more.

But lets not be hypocritical, painting your roof black is no different than rocking an AMG badge on a non-AMG MB.
