Putting bag of ice on s/c b4 run at the track...

What the best way to do this? Just buy a bag of ice and slap it on there? Will the plastic bag melt? Is it ok if water drips out of it?

+1

The water from the ice will drip down and collect into the plastic under-carriage piece underneath the car. As soon as you launch, it'll drip water all over the track. Our first couple of tries at Famoso, all Mercedes cars were kicked out

I like to put the bag of ice in a trash bag to prevent leakage, and then place the whole thing in a wet towel.

The wet towel will help with heat transfer, as well as some latent evaporation.

Ok I've tried this and even cut an opening on the bottom cover so the water could drip out. I would use several towels and 4 bags of ice. Enough to cover the intakes and sc. It works and cools down in about 10-15 minutes. Then a better method was suggested and it worked better. I have an ice chest with very cold water bottles, and put that into a spray bottle. I mist the intakes and SC continously as well as adjust the nozzle and spray the heat exchanger. 10 minutes flat the car is cool and ready for another pass.

No water anywhere is for your safety. You hit dripping water at the 300' mark and your kissing the wall for sure. Probably french kissing. LOL.
