I am looking for a more oval (larger) foam and building a small "box" around it and open only to the top. actually, the vents there are higher pressure on the outside so air will want to go in. As is, though it is too hot.
People looking for fitting just need to get the plastic tubing and GO!
The 95mm is a variant of the fly by wire made for Fords but with MB electronic and custom plate. It has only been fit tested and shown to open close. It won't even stay on without a tune.

The blower is very loud. Not kenneybell loud but it whines loud. The throttle response is Awesome but the car feels very slow up top. Hot air sucks, gonna build an intake to go to the front....

Just curious - did you check to see if the airbox panel filters had been removed, so that more "fresh air" could reach the HKS filter?

Has anyone tried this intake out yet on the E55K? It positions the filters beside the air vents in the radiator support and I feel it would be an improvement over stock.

Inside the engine bay is hot, even if you sit by the window.

How far "up top" are we talkin'? If it's stronger all the way to 120ish and then starts falling off, it could still be a nice track setup.

Maybe this will help get more of the cooler outside air into your engine's lungs, and maybe help recover your top end.

Prodigy, why dont you try removing the K&N's and reinstalling the airbox tubes, thus bridging the gap between the foam filter and the airbox openings.

Guys, before you spend any money on under the hood intakes, please read this:

I honestly have no idea- because most of the members talking about this seem to know what they are doing most of the time. Any in-engine uncovered intake is all show and no go. This has been proven time and time again.
I think there is one way to make this work in the engine bay. Run your intake tubes to an open location flush w/the bottom of the hood. Build an intake box that seals when the hood is down w/a vented hood on 2 sides (twin intakes of course). This way, the intake is sealed from the under hood temps by the sealed box and is sucking cold air in from the hood vents, making more sound, and a new look. Much like this s2k style filter but w/the box open up top to a hood vent.

Okay, we are on the same page my friend. And yes I too thought that most of the people here knew better too. I agree completely with your idea. And on the plus side, it really wouldn't cost that much, even for a 1 off type in CF.
Good luck.

MAIN differences in my choices are, ditch the equiped metal pipes (they're just heat sinks) w/supplied silcone couplers (Ebay kit) you can use existing plastic tubes, the supplied Foam Cones are better than K&N or other Cone type variants because they're wrapped in folded metal/weave/mesh which = more Heat Sinks.
Lastly you have to DREMEL OUT the plastic walls inside the factory airboxes, there are multi-90 deg bends/plastic wall-restrictions routing air-flow due to OEM filter placement, once removed it's straight thru ram air...
I have 1 more idea that may improve it even more (I'm testing it this wknd) that basically encapsulates the new Foam Cones w/bigger 5"-6" diam flexi-plastic tube routed directly to factory holes then C-clamped in place so NO hot engine air mixing...

I am going to take a look at the insides of the airbox tonight and break out the Dremel tool. I would imagine that the fins in the airbox are to improve laminar flow, so I am curious what effect removing them will have, though I have heard many W210 55 guys doing this to their airboxes.
