Custom LET Tune vs. Stock E55

Ok so help me figure this out. Last night I ran against two other E55s. One had a custom Powerchips tune the other had a custom LET tune. This was perfect since I read great things about LET tunes and I was seriously considering getting one.

After running against the LET tune twice last night I just can't believe what the outcome was. Our first run he got a jump on me and I was on his rear bumper. I remember thinking he should be faster until I hooked and realized my car was running strong. I knew I was going to catch him and in fact I pulled ahead. The second time the same thing happened and that is what the video is of. I'm seriously debating what the issue with his car can be. I was told he had the numbers on the dyno to show it. Also he has a 180mm ASP pulley, HE, -10 degree.

I can only find the tune to be the issue with why he couldn't remain ahead of me or even pull on me. I'm not bashing anyone, I just felt bad for the guy since here he is with a custom tune and stock is beating him. I don't think a custom tune should be having this issue since I ran consistant all day as well as the Powerchips tune.

I'm sure some are happy with LETs tune and I'm happy for them. I just hope you take this for what it's worth since it's your money and your car. I hope more can share what they experience so we can keep the competitive edge out there which is the best part about this all. Also the goal too is to represent MB at the track and to help each other fly that flag right?

Yeah, I also felt bad for the guy. I was really surprised of the outcome and his car was trapping very low for his mod, especially a custom tuned car. Take it that my car is definitely modded way more than his but a 1.6 second difference in the 1/4 mile....come on. I was thinking heat could be the issue but he has all the recommended cooling for a tune and 180 pulley...the stock E55 doesn't have anything for cooling.

I'm really hoping it's not the tune but I can't think of anything else. I offered my datalogger to him but he wasn't really that interested in using it. Mike, the stock E55, use my datalogger and he was seeing anywhere from 120 -150 ish, I think. I'll check later on to see exactly what his IAT's were.

Mike, have you decided what tune your going with?

God....I watched that video ten times already.

Against him I was down to 113 to 117 and hit 144 when I trapped and looked. I didn't record that one but the runs before I was 126 to 155.

For the tune I'm definitely going for Powerchips since you ran consistant. Hopefully they can give me a deal and I want them to use your tune as the baseline before fine tuning my little kitten. I just need to get a HE and reservoir installed and some DRs first. That heat and lack of gripped killed my car during the day but it still was fun. Oh and I'm still on that damn debate between MB or Chryslers warranty that's half the price. Decisions decisions! Are the Chrysler warranties a mirror image of the MB like everyone states?

I might need to reconsider my tune.

Not mirror, but pretty much as comprehensive as "bumper to "bumper" as it can get.

Go local, I think it's the best way. After you get your mods installed you'll basically have the same thing as myself. Have PC use my tune as a baseline and tune from there. Remember, I didn't tune with my airbox so it should be close. Just make sure you watch your AFR's and it should be fine.

If you really think about it, how many times can LET make it over here ? Do you honestly think you could find 5 new customers every time you need a re-tune? Not bashing, but thinking logically. It doesn't make sense when you have reputable tuners within driving distance. JMHO.

I've been telling you, GET THE CHRYSLER WARRANTY!!!!! Use the other 2k form mods .

Somethings not right. Get her checked out. I wouldn't immediately point to the tune, but it's definitely a suspect. I went with a PC tune mostly because it was available locally at a local shop in San Francisco, but my neck and butt dyno tells me you can't go wrong with it.

I'm in SF as well. Where can you get a PC chip here? It's a swap right? Not a dyno tune?

The more I see things like this the more I consider leaving my car stock. In ok weather I avg 116.5 in the 1/4 and in 50 degree I ran a best of 117.7 My goal is to run into the 11's and with DR's I believe I will get there. On street tires my best 60' is 1.85 and 1/4 12.09. I will wait until either we run into some colder weather or I will just wait until oct-nov to head back to the track.

just to be fair to the E55 with the LET tune, that left lane at Sac is VERY *****ty. I only run in the right lane when at Sac.

Nissi Motorsports on Bryant and 5th. Awesome guy who knows what he's doing. If you're in the area, I'll let you test out my ride for a comparison. I'm probably a bit more modded though.

When LET dyno tuned my car, they were able to get a tremendous amount of TQ down low but HP was not very impressive at all, considering the mods.

I feel that the tune characteristics played out correctly at the track. I had massive traction problems at launch (high TQ) coupled with low trap speed at the 1/4 mile (low HP at peak).

During our last run (video), I thought I got him because we had an identical launch. However, once our tires were hooked, I was so shocked to see him walk away from me! WTH!!!

Either that or it's my driving. :/

That was a big concern at first too is not having them local. Plus any excuse to take a drive especially when you proved how good it is.

It's Saturday I can't buy anything or I would. I feel like a nerd in a calculator store, which one to buy? Too bad everything is closed! I want to go get the cooling done first if I can and go back up to Sac and run the next TnT.

I'm going to talk to the guy with the purple Camaro about fabricating some air scoops like we were talking about since he does that at work. Plus two other engineers have carbon fiber machines in their garage. I doubt they will do anything but alls I can do is ask.

Totally addicted now

Forgot to mention that it's not a swap. The shop receives a file from Pc and that gets loaded into your ECU. Your original programming is saved. At least this is what I was told.

You should have datalogged Jerry. Next time I'm going to insist on you using my datalogger. If you did many things would have been eliminated. I'm sure you had fun either way and that's all that matters. At least you know there's definitely a issue with your car and it should be checked. Borrow a datalgger and do a few runs to see where your IAT's are.

95, cooling down to 75. I don't think the temp is the issue here.

However hot it was, we all ran consistent numbers. We all had identical cooling down times.

If it was cooler, I would have ran faster, but so would Mike's Stock E55.

Could you guys post up the timeslip that corresponds to the video. It would really shed light on driver vs. tune

Don't look at as slower because by the time you hit the right lane frustration had already set in so you weren't as focused as you could have been.

I bought drag radials thinking it would help me get better 60 foots. Don't think it helped, here is why... BTW my best 60 foot was still only 1.82 or 1.83. I could have done that on radials.

The guy spraying the water at the last track day was a lazy turd and NEVER put any water on the right side. All I did was spin my left tire during burnout most of the time. That's why one of my dr's are worn and the other has lots of tread. I guess an LSD would have made the difference.

GL on your quest for 11s! If you want my spot, I wont give it up without a fight! I plan to mod soon so get back out there!

Do you do your burnouts in dynomode or with ESC off? I do mine with ESC off and both always spin while I'm doing burnouts. I love it when the rear pitches sideways during the burnout

I used both... Trying different techniques that day. Oh yea how can I forget the sideways thing I don't like to lift early, so I can remove all debris from tires.
