Have you guys seen this on Ebay? I came across it today and was kinda surprised.

Since these go under the hood, I don't even know what level of posing to call this (since nobody will even see these emblems until the hood is opened). Unless I'm missing something, however, why would you ever need these engine plates, if not to pose? I'm not trying to be hard on anybody for buying these; just seeking some perspective. Any thoughts?

My feeling is like, 'yeah, so what?' There are tons of fake everything out there, not just AMG and not only in the auto world. You know, like the fake Gucci bags, etc., you see people with all the time, etc..
Bottom line, imho, is I know what I have and I have it for a reason. And the reason isn't to impress anybody else. That goes for everything, not just cars.
That's why you and I don't have fake AMGs or fake Rolexes, etc..
On the other hand, I suppose if your engine badge came off somehow and you didn't want to pay the exorbitant price from the dealer to replace it, then you at least have another option. I debadged my car and later realized that the dealer charges almost $200 for a full replacement set. So, I do have another option to get the fake ones from eBay.

It's all good, I suppose. I was just trying to get a feel for the reasons why someone would need to order a plate for their engine.... It's not necessarily any sweat off my back, but I thought this item was interesting when I came across it on Ebay...

Yeah. And I suppose that there's a whole bunch of people who just sit around trying to think up ideas on making money and selling on eBay. I see the seller also sells AMG engine plates with "Built for _____" with your name in the blank.
People will buy all sorts of crap.

I know a guy on the forum who's plate wasn't there when he bought the car...could have fell off? Eitherway, he could use that one on ebay...and I don't think he'd be posing.

Anyway , wouldn't work for my car ... mine says "Mirko Wald "
On a slightly different note... does anyone have any info on the various AMG builders. I'm hoping Mirko was fired for incompetency.

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
I just read there are approximately 45 builders and they assemble roughly 100 engines a day
I remember on the show "Supercars Exposed" there was a small wall w every builder's plaque attached to it....
I can't seem to find a list of all names online though

I think it's pretty cool for practical joke...
I could imagine it would make someone's day if he/she sees "Mickey Mouse" or "Donald Duck" or "BMW" or "Guess Who" or "Your Wife" or "Your Fiancee". LOL

When i was at the factory, they said it takes a guy about 3 or 4 hours per engine.
There is a list of all the builders somewhere in the AMG Private Lounge forum...can't remember where though.
This is a pic of the board they had up on the wall in the engine factory in 2007. There were 50 guys at that time.

Only 3-4 hours? I'm disappointed. My salesperson told me it took 3-4 months to handcraft the motor which are only built by special engineers who are required to hold several university degrees in advanced metallurgy and combustion science.

j/k...thank god they don't take 3-4 months per engine, the car would be $1M+ and they wouldn't make more than a few per year!

I don't think that will work as the direct URL, but once you're in, click on "Insider", then "People of AMG" and then "Master Mechanics".
You can mouse over each plaque to see the closeup. When I login, the last three are listed as "undefined" and the plaque says "loading..."
