usually had people come back after they figure out what an E55 is and say "your car is the fastest production sedan in the world". LOL - old articles on the web.

depends on who asks a question...
my answer is normally "E-Class" or "E55"

I guess I'm pretty young as well, 22 years old. Whenever my car and finances come up, I'm always as honest as I can be.

Someone: How do you afford that car?
Me: Barely.

If it's just a convo about the car, I'm ALWAYS happy to talk to fans

With this car I don't really get as many lookers as I did with my Z, but my Z was heavily modified. But the people who do ask about my car already know about it and have something very similar to my E55. Most people have been rather nice and less critical than they were with my JDM ride. I got a lot of hate because certain people saw my car as "Ricer".

When I was younger I was apologetic for having nice things because majority of the people I was around could not afford or didn't appreciate nice things like I did. After a while I just said F*ck it and now I don't care because I work just as hard (if not harder) to be able to afford such items.

I try not to take situations like that too serious... I tell em I'm a white slave trader and that business is good. That usually shuts them up or we move on to a different subject.

At 28 years old I get this question a lot. Not from strangers, but from friends, coworkers, and acquaintences from way back. It usually comes up because everybody who knows me even a little knows that I'm a car nut. I typically tell them "It's an E55 AMG. I picked it up for a great price because depreciation is horrible and it's 5 years old. I wanted a car with 4 doors, plenty of room, and plenty of power".

They usually then ask how much power it has and I tell them 500, which no one seems to believe. If they are truly interested in the car and I have time I'll offer to take them for a spin. The first words out of everybody's mouth so far have been "Holy s$*t" and "unbelievable". I took it down to the local 1/8th mile track last weekend and was the quickest/fastest "street" car there, which seemed to blow the mind of pretty much all of the small-town people in attendance.

I do get comments about being loaded and a baller, but I just laugh it off and tell them their 1/2 ton pickup cost more than I paid for the Benz.

That's actually really funny- I had an old co-worker who got upset thinking that I got some huge raise when I showed up in my E55 one day. Little did he know he spent more on his brand new F250 than I did my E55.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys....as the saying goes, let the haters hate, and watch the money pile up.

I am 21, and I always answered "I got a C-class". usually people just let it slide. but if the next question is "how much?" I ALWAYS replied "Not sure, dad bought me". Because in the first place, they already trying to say that "oww...ur parents bought it for you" stuff...

people who know cars usually start the conversation with "do you like cars?" or "what your hobby?" that kind of stuff...

just my $0.02

Enjoy the car, ignore haters!

9 years ago, I saw this guy with a new (at the time) E55 AMG (N/A). I passed by him and said, 'nice car'. He just stuck his nose in the air and looked the other way.

So now that I've been blessed to own my own MB - and people say 'nice car' to me, I simply say 'thank you'. No arrogance needed.

I got my E430 2000 when I was 28 year old ( 5 year ago )
I just told them its a old 4 years old car, 2 years ago W211 E500 people ask me how much I make to afford only Mercedes and now I have E55 people just assume I am rich.......
E430 paid $17K sold $14k
E500 paid $25K sold $19k
E55 paid $28k Keeper !!!!!

I didnt pay much for all those cars.... $28K i cant even pay for a V6 equipped Honda Accord. I always wanted a E55K so I did step by step to reach what I want and I am 33, I work my a$$ to get my dream car so I dont care how people talk about my car. When they ask, i just tell them its a E class with 500HP.

I tend to get a lot of attention daily driving mine around. Usually daily someone wants to compliment or chat about my ride. I am fairly freindly in just about all cases and love to chat about cars so dont really mind.
I am not quite as young as a lot of you but have always been a car nut and have had nice cars since I was 17.

no one asks me what I drive but when they see my driving it, I do get questions at gas stations on occasion. I am 29 now but had a W210 E55 when I was 23 as well. People would ask the price I would tell them and the response of "you must be doing well to afford that" would KILL me. I hated that. At least now my job requires me to dress in a suit so people assume I have a good profession as opposed to when i was 22 years old and others probably thought i was a street pharmacist. hahah

Depreciation is our friend and IMHO better to use it than to rather get a brand new Accord/Camry,etc. It's my plan as well to get my first AMG and even with that Im sure people will think what they'll think. In our society no matter how we respond people will keep their sense of individual perception about others no matter how much we reply or speak in return.

I tot identify w/truck story, when I was 22-23 I had bought myself a brand new 4x4 1500 Chevy Suburban, blk on blk then took it straight to perf/off-road shop in TO 6" Pro-comp lift, Weld wheels, 35" BFG's tint, Borla headers-Borla cat-back, custom stereo work etc...I was in love w/it & working my *** off 6-7 days wk for it...

I go to my local gas station for fill-up some dude in his 20's asks "How old are you?" I tell him, then he grimaces & slaps his own forehead saying "WTF how come I don't have 1? Must be nice?" insinuating parents floated it. I told him to get a phukin JOB! & few choice curse words I was immature & way more hotheaded @ the time, currently I find intrusive Q's like this purely amusing...

It doesn't bother me. If someone pays me a compliment I say thanks and answer any questions they have. I'll pay someone a compliment with their car, I think it's something that just happens among car lovers.
