I may go for this one.

I just hope it's not too firm. FWIW, I'm sure that's what everyone else is worried about too. Stock 722.6's are slushy, and could definitely stand for some improvement, but I also don't think you want to go too far in the other direction, making the shifts hard enough that the car is annoying to drive.

I guess I'm wondering how firm is firm. Maybe a vid of the tach with sound would help clarify things?

cls 55 or FIAT Coupe T20v-6speed
all CLS55 should have BLU Tops as stock

I was enthusiastic with this possible new mod but seems CLS 55 already have as stock those BLU TOP valves p/n A 240 277 00 98 or new A 240 270 00 89

IIRC as of transmission with numbers ending 247135 Blu Top are stock

i just checked my Trans ID and it is 722643 05 882066

so, if I correctly understand, my last six number is bigger than 247135, meaning that I have those valves already

... indeed I am satisfied enough of my gearbox
but wilder would always be welcomed, especially because we can always set it to Comfort if it's too much

in any case, thanks again Hooley for the great search

... waiting for next discovery

It may be possible all the Kompressor AMGs already have the bigger valves (due to the power increase) where as the naturally aspirated 55s do not since they are more or less like their lower non-AMG counterparts.

If Hooleys C55 has the smaller ones, then most likely most of the NA 55 AMGs since 2000 until 2005 probably have the same ones as well.

I did the original solenoid swap on my 2003 CL55, which definitely has a kompressor.

Im not sure what it will do for a car with that hasnt reached it torque limits, As you know my car was making over 500wtq and that is taxing the transmission. It would be cool to see this mod done on a C32 and see what happens. I'm just about 100% sure your car has the old brown top valves.

uptate

the car is performing well. Down shifting at lower speeds, say when coming to a stop light feels or resembles an old school shift kit. Could be slightly jerky for the non-racer when slowing down. Other than that my sift delay from gear to gear is still gone and I couldn't be happier about that.

Do you think replacing the third valve would fix that slowing jerkiness? Also, what if you drive the car in "W" mode, does it eliminate that final jerk (since its 2nd gear start)? Just curious. Thx

Sorry for being away for awhile guys, here is a link that has pics with callouts for the different solenoids/valves.

http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/s...t=17590&page=2

So, if I got this right based on memory and the pics, there is a solenoid/valve for the torque convertor lockup control, 3 for shifting, and the 2 for the pressure control. hooleyboy and I changed out the 2 for the pressure control on our cars.

I'm going to try and to provide some info on some other questions folks have -

1. It is my understanding that both pressure control valves have to be changed. One functions to control main pressure, the other functions to control shift pressure. Simply bumping up main pressure without corresponding bump up in shift pressure can actually make the shift pressure less from a relative kinda' perspective.

2. Too harsh/Too firm concerns. I'm thinking this is subjective. The only concern I have is that downshifts to first can be abrupt at times. I can control this with how I use my brake coming to a stop but it can catch me off guard occasionally.

So, I'm driving around in C Comfort mode for the majority of time, then simply pull down to first from a stop in comfort mode if I want first gear. This prevents a downshift to first when coming to a stop. In Comfort mode, my car shift better now than it did in Sport before the change, so it has been a big win for my tastes.

hooleyboy has it right, it is like an old school shift kit. That was what I wanted, and is probably a good measure of whether or not it is something others wish to have as well.

3. If I have this right, my tranny number ID is 722643 04 182574 . Hard to say for certain when the blue tops became original equipment. I may be oversimplifying, but "240" to me means Maybach/65. So, they were probably original equipment in the 65's. It's also my understanding that MB started consolidating all the different tranny variation nonsense after the 65 introduction. So ... as to when the 55's started to get the blue tops, we would need input from someone who has specifics on when the change over actually occured.
