=====> Team AMG @ Fontana 07/18/2009 <=====
EDIT: here are some of the details that I know so far (at least until the racers recover and start posting
)1) It was an extremely hot day with very high DA: 105 F with a DA of 4700 ft.
2) Alan is our new champion and now holds AMG Flag.
3) Alan and Rick had a couple of very close races....
4) Alan's best was 11.6x @ 123 mph and Rick's best was 11.9x @ 191 mph (both running 91 tunes but Rick on 100 shot of NOS).

Notible difference in my fastest run was that I did not feather the pedal out of the hole. I just floored it, as it spun and hooked by itself to my best 60'.
Thanks to everyone for the lessons, refreshments, and most of all, the EZ up to block out that scorching sun!

Drag Times corrected to 11.27 @ 127.66 drag time says only 100 degrees that day but we know it was much hotter than that out there.. ( Famosa was 11.6x @ 126.xx )
My average trap = 120 and E.T = 11.9 all day from 9:30am thru 3pm regardless of heat
So I had to expand the AMG FLAG to compete with the 55's do to the fact that the 63's just aren't coming out to the tracks for some racing.
The closest 55 63 race was .0433 apart.. Great job Allan
I have the new RennTech Air Box that I did not want to install at this time. I wanted to study the times with the new headers. I also will install a new 100 octane file. Next time out I will have the Air Box, 100 File and a Secret mod that has yet to be done on any 63
We all had a great time even in the 105 degree weather. TEAM AMG all ran great. We are all working on reaction times and 60's. The next time out we will all break our best runs. Thanks for a great race day guys and Juicee

Usually when air temps are around 100F, track surf temps are over 130F.
I wish I could data log the runs, that would of gave us a lot of answers.
1) Track elevation around +1200 ft above sea level.
2) Track reportedly goes slightly up-hill towards the end.
3) Extremely hot temps + bad air quality area + varying humidity.
Even conservatively speaking, if we assume temps from yesterday to be 100 F and DA to be +4000 ft, can you imagine what the car would do in 40 F temps and -1000 ft of DA (that's 60 degrees of cooler weather and 5000 ft drop in DA)???

Alan, congrats on these numbers man, the car ran great
Can you imagine results after long tubes + more custom tuning + a couple of secret mods
I can
Rick, congrats on these numbers as well my friend..... I wish I was there to hear the car.... everyone kept telling me, the sound was unbelievable

He's known to give people sandwiches right before they run to add a few pounds
I caught him once adding a few ice bags to Rick's CLS trunk to get an edge

Ha,
I was in the pool all day, but I have the video near complete.
This was so fun, so hot but dam it was fun.
My best run was against ZGLIDE's E55 with K&N filters,
12.92 @ 109 vs. 12.60@112.61
The E55's were much quicker than my 63 so I had to get the hole shot to have any chance at all.
My car ran 12.92-12.99 with a 13.08 and a 13.1 at the very end of the day.
Alan's 55 rolled by me as if my car had stalled.
Mike was running his stage 1 E55, he ripped off 12.44-12.76 all day @ 113-114.
Bill's (Zglide) E55(with filters) attained a very very quick 12.60 and trapped 112, amazing.
Lisa (Rick's daughter) drove the CLS 63 to some quick times off the juice, 12.20@118 and I think I saw a 119. She has really improved , and the car is definately going to give Jrcarts CLK63 a nice battle.
I gave Alan a special challenge prior , "Alan get an 11.5x@120+ and I will run down the drag strip shirtless with the AMG flag raised".
Alan runs 11.6 on his very first pass, lol. Did I set myself up for a real embarrassing moment?
I had never seen an E55 sub 11.7 at this track, here comes Sacramento King, boom 11.6...whoa.
So heads up we decide to have Rick vs. Alan for the flag...
During the first half and most of the event it seemed as if the CLS 63 on spray would hold off the E55 from Northern Cali, the 128 mph monster car.
Rick is getting Alan at the tree, he then hits a 121 vs 120. Alan desperate for just a tad more starts mumbling to the little cooling tank in his trunk. He looks up at the small thin cloud that covers the sun and shakes his head. He had driven 380 miles so he could experience 105 degrees and 200 honda's driving through the water box........
Last run's , the monster E55 rises up and attains 122 mph with an 11.6 again, this was at 105 degrees, the worst possible time of the day . The 63 starts to slow, apparantly the car is OUT OF JUICEE JUICE, and purging straight oxygen.
In the end Alan had captured the quickest ET and the highest trap, Flag is gone back to Sacramento.
The races were insane, exciting and well worth being tortured by the sun.
The worlds fastest 335 came out but was severly hampered by a slipping transmission.
A great day , tremendous dedication guys, Alan , Rick , Mike , Bill, Lisa, Pit crew, you people are addicts, lol

It was well worth it and worth staying until 4pm to drive straight home 370 miles back to the bay area to get up for work today at 430am. I just had to test out that Renntech tune and speed****.
My best run was just what Juice said 12.4 and E.T. phone home was 114.51. She stayed consistant all day even with brand new street tires that got put on in SD at ACG. 12.4 to 12.7 at 113 to 114. When I data logged I had IATs at 133 at the line and when I looked after the run it was 169 and my engine temp at the line was 199 degrees. She wasn't enjoying her day at the beach that is for sure but hopefully I will get the data from the run to see just how high the IATs got. I can't wait to see her run in better conditions so that speedshift will really utilize the HP and TQ gain from the Renntech tune. Hopefully I can get some DR's and line up against Lisa again.
All in all well wroth it and I can't wait to line up again! Hoepfully it cools down a bit so I can hit up Sacramento soon. Where are the bay area or NorCal AMG's?
RARFinancial, that's one bad a$$ CLS you have, both looks and performance

. All the races we had was determined purely by the driver and not the car, I friken loved it. Thanks again Rick for helping me become a better driver MikeAMG, great job on getting a new PB in such conditions. You're coming along nicely given your time on the boards. I guess the next track day will be at Infineon, I'm not sure if I'm making that one since it will be on a Wednesday. Work is really starting to pick up
Z-Gluide, Very very nice times for a stock E55 in such conditions. Hopefully you'll chime in and share your amazing times. I expect to see you when the rest of the crowd decides to roll up to Sacramento. Once again great job
Here's a little information in regard to my performance at the track...not too bad given the conditions. I was definitely struggling with my 60' time and I think it was a combination of too many street tires tearing up the track and heat. My best 60' was 1.790 with a 11.644 @ 122 in the hottest part of the day, I think Josh mentioned DA was close to +5000
. My best trap was 123 with a 11.8 and 60' of 2.00x. Even with the rear reservoir the combination of too many participants and heat was just too much for it. I was trying to figure out the best way too keep things cool but with the engine temps around 205 degrees it was near impossible. This was a great learning experience both on the track and with my car. I'm 100% positive I'll be installing the new LT's and hopefully I'll unlock more power.

Maybe Friday, my friend from work wants to run his mustang to see how she does. This is my four day weekend so I'm sure I will play a little with her but not much. It was a pleasure getting whooped up on by you Friday night. Are you going to post up about the rice rocket that took you?
I have one of Mike vs a black nissan? And E55 vs E55 Mike vs Bill I think.
Enjoy,
