Just Removed the Resonators, Might put them Back
I just removed the resonators yesterday and it sounds more aggressive and I especially like the exhaust crackling sound when slowing down.
However, it sounds more like an American V8 compared to the refined sound of a Euro V8. In fact, it sounded very similar to the new Corvette with an exhaust that I see going down my street every day. Nothing wrong with that sound, I just liked the stock exhaust sound better though I wish it was a little louder. Would the X pipe have kept the stock exhaust tone?
Also, it is a lot more louder than I expected. I was expecting a slight increase in sound but not this much since the resonator is basically a straight-through pipe with perforations. Also the piping in the resonator is a little smaller (I think a quarter inch) compared to the rest of the exhaust piping.
I'll try it out for a few more days and make a decision.
What do you guys think?

Did you go for straight pipes in place of the resonator? If so, try putting on an X-pipe. The sound should be much more refined, closer to the Euro V8 tone you are looking for.

I have been researching this for a few weeks.
My wife's cousin owns a muffler show down in a El Monte. I know I can get this done any day, but I was looking if I should do the X pipe or not.
So far, the X pipe just gives a better overall sound to the E55 or 63, no performance gain. The straight pipes instead of the resonator will give a more edgy sound not as refined (as mentioned already)
The X pipe options available are a little too much $$ i my opinion. Knowing the price of the material and labor involved, really makes me think twice. Not sure if its worth it.
On a E55, the sound is not nearly as aggressive as in the 63 with or without resonator. Difference compression ratios on the engines really make it sound totally different.
I'm still thinking of gutting the muffler out and leaving everything else untouched. But I have yet to listen to a clean audio file with this mod.

Vadim, can you use 2 x-pipes in the E55? The first one to replace the H-section and the the 2nd at the resonator??
This may be a dumb questions, but why the 'X' shape and not a straight through 'II' design when replacing the resonators?

LB63, I was in the same exact situation as you and decided to pickup the X-pipe today from Vadim and had them installed at a muffler shop back in LA. I would first like to say that Vadim was a pleasure to work with and followed up with a call after my installation to make sure I was satisfied. Very classy
Here are my thoughts: After installing the X-pipe, the first thing I noticed was that it was much more quieter. At idle, the straight pipes had a deeper and louder burble versues the much more tame X-pipe. The biggest difference is at WOT, where the X-pipe shines!!! To make an anology the straight pipes screams like a NASCAR whereas the X-pipe howls like a F1. I also took a colleague for a quick spin to hear his thoughts and he comments, "sounds like a N/A Porsche on roids." I did have once concern, the diameter of the X-pipe is actually 1/4" wider than my stock pipes
It may just be in my head but I feel like I lost a little power on the low end. To be honest, even if I did lose a few HP the howlin' sound more than makes up for it. I highly recommend you switching to the X-pipe as I myself have no regrets.
Lastly, thanks Vadim!!!
