4 wheeled car.
I'm not up to speed on what happened, but was your pulley stock or aftermarket?

Thanks for all the support , any takers for checking out the engine? I have to give props to Chris if it wasn't for him , I wouldn't have been able to afford to do this. I really hope this all works out and this engine checks out. I haven't driven my car in almost three months , and was excited to get the new mods on , I could always sell the $4300 in mods I bought in the last couple months but then I will just back to step one on the Moding chart

What does he mean by "gear" here? Is he talking about the pulley? I assume the keyway is the woodruf key way for the pulley to fit onto? What is fused to what here? Sorry for the questions but I don't understand what "gear" is damaged - although it sounds pretty serious. The pulley came loose this would put major strain on the woodruf key and slot, and almost surely destroy the pulley key... the crank would also get some stick but thought it might hold out.

I am also not entirely sure why the pulley came loose in the first place? I know you have two different length / type bolts used ... was this tried to try stop the pulley from coming loose or did this cause the problem?

Would be handy if they made this pulley fit onto the crank with splined slots like the drive shafts - would not have any of this milarky.

Really sorry to read of your misfortune. I agree with the others that said it would be more sensible and efficient to install a replacement engine. There are some for sale on eBay right now that you might want to check out too:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...Q5fAccessories

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...Q5fAccessories

Also, you might try to locate one through www.uneedapart.com This links to salvage yards around the country and the sellers will respond if they have one to sell. GL getting her back on the road quickly and as inexpensively as possible. We all feel your pain.

I looked at a parts diagram trying to figure it out and the crank gear is the tip of the crank that connects to the pulley and timing chain on it. so the Key way must have gotten twisted and fused the crank gear to the crank.

Thanks , I starting looking for a couple hours yesterday once I got the news. I've seen all these the , two are way out of my price range the one looks like a pretty good deal but this CL engine I found I think is the one , if it all checks out.

Rebuild the current with a new cranshaft and pistons. Not as plug and play, but worth a blown motor.

Thanks, I've call them and the three $3800 engines turned into one $5500 that has been dropped with a cracked oil pan.

Looks like an aftermarket pulley install that missed the TQing process, so the bolt backed out, the pulley ran loose and basically melted the mount of the pulley onto the crank....

2 CRITICAL steps that many of us (me too) learn too late:

1 - Line up the key into the key way and make sure it slides in smoothly.

2 - TQ properly.

Seems simple, but it leads to major change if somethng is off.

Make this a project and use all the knowledge here to build yourself a bad ride. A used motor can only bring trouble without all the gains. At least a re-build can be custom.

REPLACE THE PISTONS!! FORGED FTW!!!!

Bro, don't be paying $2500 for a crank. Decide to take this on as a positive and not a salvage job.

Call those quacks and buy the crank out....

An opinion here, but in my experience crank pulleys gone awry often lead to other trickle down issues in the motor. In this particular instance, it may not be the case, but having that crank pulley loose could have cause all kinds of wierd things to go wrong inside the block... bearings, seals, who knows. I don't think I'd try rebuilding unless you have a big cash reserve in case things aren't all as they seem - which doesn't seem to be the case in this instance.

Get yourself a new shortblock... and then maybe tear down the old one and see what you find. You may be able to salvage it or sell off some bits to recover the costs of the new (used) shortblock.

No need to PM, lets keep this public. Our cars are all gaining in age and rebuilding with trick parts is gonna be the wave. Forged Pistons are the main change I would make in the bottom end, so why not do it now. The difference is massive (IMO).

Maybe others can chirp in on what else could be done while it is apart. I'll help all I can just to enjoy and learn, so PM away. I just wanted this to be positive, instead of us just giving in on the beast.
