Couldn't get a good launch at all last Night!!! Traction off vs. traction on??

I'm new to the whole automatic launching thing, and couldn't get a good launch at all last night.... All runs were with EPS off, car lowered position, sport2 suspension, and transmission in sport..

1st run:
staged at 1500rpm
spinned too much tires, the rear even came loose a bit on me
realized that I slammed to the gas too quick....

2nd run
staged lower at around 1300rpm
still spinning more than i should of

3rd run
Staged a little more than 1100rpm
came out the hole pretty good, but by the time i was ready to fully depress the accelerator, car bogged for a split second causind a slight delay...

I read the sticky on How to drag race.... IMO i figured launching with T/C off is the best way, but it seems as though im still doing something wrong... I would like to hear a recipe or two on launching.... Plus Traction on vs. traction off...

Just when I thought I got over missing the M5, I have this issue LOL

i usually run with car raised up, suspension in comfort mode, trans in S mode.

1 sec tire spin before the line, torque to 1200 RPM and then about 75% throttle to quickly100% throttle.

12.6 is actually not that great at all for a stock car. mine did 12.7@109 when my SC pump was broken and the supercharger was shutting off (when i first got the car). an average OK run for a healthy stock E55 on street tires is a 12.1-12.2.

Stupid question...

Would a failing H/E affect launching/performance(while supercharger is running)?

To the OP. When I was racing with my street tires I used a countdown to the floor. A 2-3 second burnout depending on traction with suspension raised, comfort, ESP on, S mode, and make sure to start off in first gear.

This countdown to floor really helped me in dialing in my car. The very first time I took my car to the track (VR600 on Toyo T1R's 18" stock chromies) I started off with a 1 second count that got me a 13.2. I was using the one Mississippi counting method (seems lame but it ended up working well for me since this was my first time to the track) and my times to follow were 13.00, 12.5, 12.00, and my fifth run was a 11.7. Not that shabby for the first time to the track with all that added power. If anything it help control that urge of just wanting to smash the pedal to the floor. Sounds lame but it worked for me, and please don’t make fun of me…hahaha.

Here's what you do:

suspension shock setting to 1

transmission set to sport mode

if you have street tires get a good burnout (about 5 sec)

power brake up to 1000 (no higher)

let off the brake and roll into the throttle fast (do not mash) until you hit the floor.

keep her pointed straight until you cross the line

I now consistantly run low 1.8 60' on Nitto 555's (not the softest tire)
and I run 12.0-12.2.

It took me 4 trips to the track and about 20 or so passes to figure out how to launch it. I'm shooting for 11's next time out on Sept 4 up in Sac!

as for trap speed...see my sig!

I would say a 12.1-12.2 in a stock car is way better than average. Average is 12.5-12.8 for a stock E55 a 12.2 is a very very healthy run in good conditions

agree to disagree. there is no reason why a healthy E55 wont run 12.1-12.3 with some practice. on 19" wheels and with a broken pump mine went 12.7@109 with a 1.98 60'. if the 60' was better (1.85) it would have done 12.5 with a broken pump. that was also my first time at the track with this car so i had no clue how to launch it and what settings to use etc.

It's pointless to do a burnout on street tires. Unless something has changed but an 11.7- holy SHEEIT. Nice!

With the ESP off, you will most likely kill yourself. Especially if you're in the right lane

Getting a good run is not easy. The best place to run is at rentals. You can go as often as you'd like, and back out of runs where your 60' isn't so hot. Plus (and this is a big plus), your car will "open up" as you run more and more often. The sneaky ECU reset is nice, but it can't replace what the ECU is ready to do for you after 5 open runs down the strip.

As an example, at an Atco rental I attended two years ago, I had my best 60' times ever on my first couple of runs, but didn't crack 11's on my first. As I ran more and more, the car got faster and faster (even as the temp and DA rose). My fastest runs came a few hours later with worse 60' times.

Once you get the hang of it on a sticky track, it is pretty easy.

BTW - My fastest runs were with ESP on. Not sure why anyone would want to risk it without ESP. Not worth it, imo.

oh trust me Iv done everything, this is with drag radials and perfect grip,it was 86 with like 90% humidity.

the da was like 2100

evos that night with 35rs were only trapping 115-116 and the fastest one couldnt get into the 11s.

This is the way my car gets its best times.

ecu reset
tranny in S
D on the dash
T/C off
suspention lowered

This is also with drag radials, this will give you a 14 second run on normal tires lol
