If the car is pulling timing, there maybe very important issues that you need to consider: bad quality fuel, too much heat, knocking, etc...
I think you can re-set the ECU without going to the dealer, but you may need to go to someone who has access to STAR diagnostic software.

My local guy who does my non warranty work resets all settings for me. The car is a true monster once reset, like a dream. My biggest complaint is the car is not allowed to stay there, soooo frustrating which we all know well. It looks like the 2010 e63 has the amg button allowing you to stay aggressive, we'll see if it really works.

normally i get up to 80kmh then put my foot in it that car kicks down and sound very loud and shoots forward very fast and hard.
But the past few days its not made that very loud kick down and went forward hard its not dead slow but its not super fast.
maybe i should let the fuel run out then get new fuel and reset the ecu

yes...but my point is we should be able to own a simple inexpensive tool to do this ourselves. maybe something similar to renntech's rat device where we can just plug it in and let it erase our adaptives!

i think your better off just resetting your tranny ECU first, and see how that feels!
my experience with tranny ECU reset was definitely NIGHT AND DAY!
give it a try, before going to all kinds of places to reset when you can reset your tranny your self!

so this is totally different than doing the sneaky ecu resets?
so i guess the sneaky reset is just a partial reset and if we had the star diag then we can do a full reset, is that correct?
will doing this FULL ecu reset through the star diagnostic system erase my kleeman flash? (or future PC flash)
i would like to try and get the full reset done if it allows me to keep my kleeman or pc flash.

it won't erase your tune and this isn't something that most people will need to do but it could be very useful as a diagnostic tool.

Can`t you erase the adaptives by ??
Turning key to the ON position and then disconnect battery. Let sit for 30 minutes, turn key off and then re-connect battery?

E63,,,not any more,,,BMW X5 50i
Somewhere on this board, there was an reset done on the 63 engine that is a little different than the one done on the 55 engine. The guy who did the reset was I think from Germany and he said to reset the 63 engine,,,,make doors are closed, windows up and radio off. Turn the key to the second click and hold the accelerator peddle down for 45 seconds.......turn the key off and then take the foot off of the gas and wait 2-3 minutes before starting the engine, in the car with the doors closed and the radio off. The only difference is the 45 seconds vs the 5 seconds for the standard ecu reset. While I have no real proof (timing slips or dyno numbers to prove anything)...the butt dyno tells me something indeed has been changed. I am asking other 63 engine guys to confirm this. I tried to find his post, but unable to do so.

My Indy mechanic did a reset for me and was definitely a major difference. Then I got back into traffic and all the usual crap, and it 'adapted' and lost it all.
+1 that we need some inexpensive OBDII device that we can do a quick adaptive reset anytime.

I'am telling you,,,,,,,,try this next time. I was totally convinced that this is the corrrect way to do the 63 engine. It only takes 2-3 minutes of your time. If it don't work,,,don't do it again,,but I'll say it again,,,there was a marked difference!

Buckeye, look at Mikey's posts #10 and #13.
What you're describing is for the TCU. That "reset" thread with the E55 was about resetting shift points. Sounds basically the same that you're saying for the E63.
We're talking ECU. That takes a Star diagnostics reset, afaik.

The only way I know of is to unplug the battery for 2 days.
A gizmo that resets the adaptations (ECU and Tranny) at each startup would be a SWEET mod.
All the more reason to buy a STAR unit....
