Got an M3: HRE wheels, Dropped, Vorsteiner, Other Mods: Pics!!
I recently sold my M6 to a fellow member and still wanted another fun car that I could mod up nicely yet drive daily. I chose the E92 BMW M3 with DCT.
I picked up this nicely optioned M3 on 08/04/2009 and by 08/08/2009 most of the mods were done except the rear spoiler and pulley which was added on a few weeks later.
Extra props to my boy Auktane and also Anthony at EAS for the impromptu pics. A real photo shoot is necessary soon.
For those of you that will ask, no its not remotely as fast as my 997TT or GTR which are pretty modded up but the car holds its own. From a dig the M3 moves excellent with the DCT tranny and the mods I have done. Its not the freeway screamer that an M6 is nor is it intended to be so. The car has a great driver feel for it though. The steering is spot on and the braking is great too. What I like over the M6 is the chassis feedback and handling. Where in the M6, I felt like was inside the car; with the M3 I feel I am part of the car much like the 997TT. Its very much point and go when it comes to driving and negotiating tight and big bends.
With the mods I have done, the car probably has about 50 more whp but Ill know for sure after the Powerchip dynotune goes down. Its not all about speed for me or I would have kept the CL65 way back when- this car is great to drive everyday and with the DCT the power is delivered efficiently with much less drivetrain loss. The shifts are even faster than the M6's SMG III. Its almost as if there is a power shift going on as I rip thru the gears. The new IDrive is worlds apart from the previous version and the interior is good.
And yes, its faster than the IS-F especially after the mods. The throttle is very typical; BMW responsive and fast.
As for cosmetics, there are so many choices and so many top notch local vendors it makes the process fun yet difficult. Originally I wasnt sure what wheels to get but I got a smoking deal on these so I have yet another set of P40's but these are textured matte black.

But since then the C63 got the Powerchip tune and the runs were dead even...

i actually drove an E92 6spd manual couple weeks ago and i liked it ALOT. it's not nearly as fast as my 55 but it handled so well, so predictable. since i only have 1 car it probably wouldn't replace my 55, but if i could have 2 cars i would absolutely get a E93 vert M3

Very nice car, Vic.
I recently drove an E92 M3 w/ DCT and honestly I wasn't all that thrilled. The car's shifting was awesome with the DCT but in the end it really felt a lot like my old E46 M3... even though it's 6 years newer on a new chassis, etc., etc.
I also should note that in spite of the DCT being so quick on shifting, I would never take it over a 6-speed manual. I was bored with the DCT within 30 minutes. In some cases, such as the GTR, you don't have a choice, but given the choice I just do not like these paddle-shift operated semi-automatic transmissions. They really take a lot away from the driving experience - and just like you said Vic, to me it's also not about being the fastest... it's about the driving experience. Driving a manual transmission gives you a song and dance that you can never get from flipping a paddle.
Then again, I hijacked a Scion xB from work that has a manual transmission and have been driving it to my office the past couple of weeks. My obsession with manual transmissions is a bit of a clinical sickness.

As for the speed, the removal of the cats along with the minor mods really opens up this engine plus the car weighs under 3700 lbs so more hp and the car starts to shine. But Ill always have faster.
This is my daily cruiser- the GTR is going under the knife soon to get upgrades since thats the project car.
