VW guys solve 70-90mm TB adaptations?
How did the VW guys figure out all the TB sizes? They have adaptors and plug and play models. The even figured out how to adapt the HEMI 90mm TB that I posted pictures of last fall.. They have a TPS adaptor figured out..Damn, we are way behind.. Scroll down and check out the TB`s.. I sure don`t want to mess with a 82mm TB, if I can get what I really want,,,,a 90mm!!!
I was going to be secret and keep all this info to myself like some do, but just not my style..

Yeah, to top it off, even the Audi guys are running 80-90mm Hemi TB`s. They claim they plug and play but are to big for thier little motors. lol..

90 - 95mm has been available for sometime. We have only recently accepted that it would help. Go read the threads and posts by our "experts" before data came out showing that the 82mm has gains over the 80mm. Before that, all we heard was that the TB was plenty big and we should just buy it.
Going to a 95mm will change driveability, especially at partial throttle. We would need tunes as well for sure.

Honestly, I don't know how much I can say on the boards. I suppose everyone knows you and I aren't in any kahoots, so I'll tell a little of why I have been so quiet.
Getting a 95mmTB prototype to fit my car ended up needing a BUNCH of extra parts and even a slight redesign of the intake. I suppose you could somehow get the 95mm mouth to fit a Y and then down to the airbox, but my experience was that it was just too cramped for that. PLUS, the added TB would want more air, which to me meant larger intake holes and manifolds. Lastly, I will replace the IC on my car. Again, it will likely mean that the airbox has to go.
So, I have gone through the process of sourcing many of these parts or starting to have them made. It costs me a great deal of money, but no more than I was spending when paying tuners to play with my car.
The point to all of this being that I am not a sponsor here and do not intend to become one. I will, however, likely do as I have in the past and follow the concept of a true group buy. By the rules, hyping it up and executing it here is not allowed, so I do not talk very openly about what is being done to my car.
Right now, intake is being installed. It is a Y box that runs into two 3" pipes along the usual route. TB and electronics have been sourced but not yet test fitted. An SC plenum is being used as a base to build an adapter plate. In all honesty, the adapter plate is key. Done right, it could allow any combination of TB sizes. I am scared to actually install any TB without having a tune plan and I don't yet. The same people working with me on the TB are looking into tuning and how costly it will be to bring in MB compatible software. They are stricktly American muscle.

I fully agree that it will help. I am so engulfed with intake right now that I am dying for a few parts. A year ago, I was with VRP/PC. That changed and so I am just catching my second wind.

Putting aside all the other parts, would the 95MM TB -plug and play? I still get idle codes with my 80mm, so I have to make a change soon.

As far as the road blocks:
The "signal" does not seam to be linear between my 80mmTB and the 95mm one. By that, I mean mine somewhat mimcs throttle position. 50% = 50% and WOT = open TB. The 95mm has less response. It opens to about 70 degrees upright at max and often does not open at all until about 15%, where it almost looks like it pops open. Anyhow, that is where the ECU tuning comes in and they do not have that capability for our cars. He is looking into it and also has some friends, so we will see....

Yes there is. Once again, it would take a custom plenum but there is room. Vadim and I had considered trying it on my car. The advantage is that you can have just one open at a time to counterbalance the "lag", like in twin turbos.

They will send you to me...
Hi guys,
Issam here....Mark has lead me to this thread and I am happy to help with any and all of your questions as I am INA and I also wrote various other DBW throttle body threads.I have adapted 75mm throttle bodies to various 320's but nothing for the SL55 or E55 but I am always happy to do a new project.
HOWEVER, Understand that increasing your throttle body size from 74mm to 90mm has 2 major issues.
1. Throttle body adaptation
2. Tuning.
You have to remember the CSA of the 74mm throttle plate is 4298mm*2 and the 90mm is 6259mm*2. By going from 74 ---> 90 you are increasing the CSA by almost HALF of what the 74 originally was.If you can overcome those 2 issues then you are well on your way to fun land.
At the request of Mark, I have a bunch of MB SL55 Parts on order and will be whipping out some prototype parts for him.
Do not want to step on anyone's toes here but I figured I would help correct some of the information about throttle bodies here for everyone.

I could tell you that on a Skoda Octavia when we increased from 60mm (59mm actually) to 80mm alot of tweaking needed to be done in the map.
Idle was very eratic and throttle response was very touchy.Bare in mind though this was a 1783cc displacement motor, not a 5439cc motor so I do not know how the engine will behave with a 90mm throttle body.It may take it just fine....but we will see in a couple of days.
As soon as the parts arrive I will be doing a full write up as well as look into becoming a sponsour here. I am just happy people were excited enough about what I do to post it here

So you are gonna make a 90mm TB for the E55? What is your target price? Thats gonna be badass! I didnt think the sc inlet had enough meat on it to bore out to 90mm
