Problem with my E55 Vibrating

When i drive the car at low revs, the car shakes/vibrates it seems to be coming from the middle, when i step on the gas it goes away but it does come back. Any suggestions what it could be i was thinking maybe gearbox

Thanks

it scares me to drive it as i dont want to cause any severe problems with it, could it be gearbox or just my driveshafts

put the car in park and rev, it if the vibrations are present then it is the tranny mounts. Do the procedure in neutral to confirm problem.

It might be the engine and transmission mount... what is your car mileage ?

Possibly could be the center driveshaft mount/bearing.

maybe its the flex disks -- they dot ear out easily but ever know with these torque monsters.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
I would say bearings and / or mounts with that mileage.

I just noticed this on mine. It does it in drive and it neutral, but ONLY WHEN COLD. Once the engine has fully warmed up it is smooth as silk, but for the first 10 minutes of driving it vibrates pretty good. This tells me that either engine begins to run smoother once it's warm(which is definitely true to some extent), or there are parts like the mounts or exhaust hangers that need a bit of heat to become more pliable.

V8s don't have balance shafts. At that mileage, I would start with a transmission mount, and then move to motor mounts.

I'm not sure what year yours is, but the glycol transmission contamination issue can lead to some low speed shakes. This is from the service bulletin:
SUBJECT:
Model 211.026/065/070/076/082/083/265/276/282/283
Equipped with 722.6 Transmission
Vehicle Jolt at Constant Speeds or During Gentle Acceleration When Torque Converter Clutch is Applied
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of a vehicle jolt at constant speeds or during gentle acceleration when the torque converter clutch is applied, and vehicle mileage is > 40,000, perform the following diagnosis / remedy

If you haven't driven it much, a new radiator and a tranny fluid flush. If you've driven it since, basically a new radiator and new transmission.

dude, this is something you need a shop to look at in person.

We can all sit here and speculate on what is wrong, but we are oceans away (most of us) on the internet.

Take it to a trusted shop and they should be able to locate the problem.

Took mine to MB dealer, replaced both engine mounts/trans mount/rear flex disc and prop center bearing.

but there is still a rear vibration on light acceleration between 35mph and 55mph. Floor it or half throttle and no problem

tech said is might be a problem with the diff or a very slim chance that its drive shafts.

2003 cl55 (sold)
Have just recently had same problem in the last month or so.... At very very gentle, low acceleration, a slight vibration, like the throttle body is hesitating or something. Only at low speeds, like 5-20mph. Push the throttle a little harder, it goes away.... may be needing to make a trip to the dealer. Have 67k miles, CL55. Hopefully just the mounts, but who knows. Anybody else with similar issues?

Just to add a bit: does it when cold and warm, doesn't matter. Does not do it all of the time, but seems to be worse or more noticeable going up a slight incline....

Mine does the same thing when I just start it and when the engines cold. RPM idle acts a little funny but then goes away when warm. I have 47k miles.

I replaced the transmission mount last night with one I picked up for $20. It got rid of 90% of the vibration, which is good enough for me. The factory one I removed looked good by all outward appearances and wasn't ripped, but it was junk. Took all of 5 minutes to replace once I got the car up on the lift.
