You pick an ET
closest to the ET wins without going faster(break out) or leaving early (red light)
On your window you write in a dial(the time you will run closest to) say 12.51
The light is timed based on your dial( time on your car)
The driver with the best reaction time usually wins this race
Of course knowing your car and consistancy are also important.
Here is an example of a bracket race
car #1 dial=12.55
car #2 dial= 12.99
The tree is staggered giving car #2 a head start over car #1(.44)
Car #2 has a .250 reaction time
Car #1 has a .011 reaction time
Car #2 runs a 13.08
Car#1 runs a 12.60
Who wins?
I wanna say car #1 catches and passes but I want Evan to figure this out using algebra

This is all about the driver and the drivers ability in his own car.
The easiest way to think about it is as follows
The faster car is giving the slower car a jump. How big the jump is up to the drivers.
Say you pick 12.75 and I pick 12.75, we would leave at the same time the tree would be the same for both of us.
If you pick 13.75 you would be given a 1 second head start.

Best way to race comparing drivers vs. the cars they drive.

Now lets say your Car#2 and you get the head start and your almost at the finish and Car #1 is nowhere in sight (maybe they spun the tires and you got a great start), then you can let off and slow down so you don't run under your dial and breakout.
Also the term fender racing comes into play. This is how it works. Car #2 gets the head start and waits for Car#1 to catch up around 3/4 of the way down, and just when Car #1 starts to catch your bumper, you then step on it and keep him a fender behind all the way to the finish. It keeps you from breaking out, and forces Car #1 to stay in the throttle trying to catch you and possibly making them breakout if the dialed too high.
So the 3 qualifying sessions we get are important to get good launches and run 3 good baseline runs so you know what to dial in the first round. Yes it's ok to dial higher than your best run that day, so you can have some room to fender race. Just not like a whole second slower, then we call that sandbagging.
It's up to you if you prefer to chase or being chased. I like to chase and don't like to be chased by 9 second cars. It's pretty scary hearing a 9 second car come roaring at you, but feels great to beat one.
Aw man, I was looking forward to spending the day with you again. I hope plans change and you can make it. I might make famoso, but not sure I want to miss a race.
Shaping up very nice. I have a few more from the other site. I'll update it in a few.

i wanna see your car here. i have a buddy whose car may be done by then that might make for a good race. he'll likely trap much higher, but b/c he wont be ableto launch it or get much traction, i bet it would be a good race.
