It is the ESC that is affected.

If time allows I'll check for you but this is not a priority for me. Send me your VIN in an email or PM for it.

Exactly, right now the ESC intervenes too early and ESPECIALLY with a CLS steering rack in the car.

Thats why I want to know about coding the ECS/Traction Control to believe that it is in a CLS55

E55 and several 928s
Mack - I will be adding an aftermarket LSD into my 2006 E55, and so when I do that in the next several months I will try and contact you at that time to see if the above would be worth the research. I am in San Diego.

You can turn off the ESP which also appears to reduce torque limiting functions. When you turn off the ESP it is not completely off. It still functions, but is far less aggressive.

The point is getting the traction control to work better with a Torsen/LSD not just blindly disabling ESP

Just pinch the Mclaren P1 ESP programme and flash it into an E55. No needs for no expensive LSD's and such the P1's are open diff like our cars.

Oh wait you guys are talking for reals here....

Unless someone is like fully mad scientist and knows how to actually hack the ESP and fully reprogram it at a binary level I cant see this getting anywhere decent.

Seriously??? First off the Titanic were you?

TBH you are right, we might be being a bit optimistic asking this question here. But someone with a C63, 2 round-abouts and a Star system would be able to figure out in an afternoon...

I have asked the question at mahhauto.

The third sentence was totally serious. I have programmed ecu's in other older cars (way older using UV erase eproms) so im not totally clueless when it comes to this sort of thing. On this car I am rather clueless though im not even totally sure what ecu all this stuff is stored in (sounds like TCU and ECU?) and unless there is a method to actually remove the files from the ecu and modify it in the community not paying some other guy to do it then thats why I say this is just all talk. The guys that might know how to do this wont share it because they be making money on it which is fair enough to a point. These cars are coming up on 13 years old and theres no opensource type way of tuning them.... im sorry but that just sucks

The fact is most of the "tuners" that sell these types of wares to reprogram our TCU's are basically just on selling factory tunes either from a CLK DTM or that type of thing. Im not saying there arent tuning companys out there that do actually modify the stock programming or create there own... but if they do I gaurantee you are paying more than $250bucks for that ****.

If someone has online SCN coding, then you can always update the datacard with the 471 option, and that will 100% work -- but as others have said, there is a way to do the same programming without online or even SCN coding.

It's possible the LSD setting is in the ECU developer menus, as there's already some traction control settings (such as the rear axle ratio).

I installed a Quaife about 5 years ago and the performance difference with ESP off is greatly improved. Again, as I stated; ESP is not off, only reduced functions. To turn ESP off completely, you must enable "Dyno Mode" which also disables the ABS.

Just not a lot of info pertaining to the software/firmware. One mistake and it's the ISoD. (Implausable Screen of Death)

I suppose we could install Xentry and find it in a demo mode if there is such a thing.

I am also interested where we find the service bulletins like S-B 05.20/20b. Are these in WIS ASRA or WSM? Finally got these and EPC installed but it is a bit of a trick to find SBs by the look.

Just an update. I'm working on a large write up. I had a ton of PMs. Anything you want included, just PM me. It'll be next weekend before I get it done.

Give this man a medal!

That is what forums are all about. Thank you.

I would very much like to know:
- How to activate option 471 for "Mechanical Locking Differential"
- How to update software on various modules like TCU and ECU in late model 2012+ cars
- Where to find service bulletins. < that one is a bit OT.

You have to go to the dealer and show proof that you're the owner of the radio and that it was not previously stolen. Dealer will make an inquiry to get it remarried with the new car. Thank god MB implemented this so the theft of COMAND will make it almost worthless for thieves. So far there is no known way of overcome this theft protection since PIN generators wouldn't work.

Thank you for your help Mackhack. The command unit is coming out of a cls63 that was a total loss. The owner was even willing to give me the vin fwiw. But my dealer said they can't do it... I guess they rather charge 6k for it lol.

Hello, I have a star diagnostics C3 module with laptop, charger cable, and includes wis program that I purchased from shardul about three months ago. If anyone is interested I'll let it go for $550 plus shipping.

I've just been given a lend of a mates STAR/Xentry/DAS laptop. However I'm running into a few problems.

Firstly is it is horribly slow, 10-15 minutes for each menu selection, then when it needs to 'collect data' it is painful. Is this normal? Surely not? Any thoughts? Do I need to use the cables that run through the box, or can I use an OBD2-USB cable I have instead?

This seems to be a VMware solution you're running. Not even the slowest laptop in the universe will take 15 minutes. No you cannot use a USB cable. This is old school 2000 technology and the system will not recognize anything but the RS232/RS484 cable. Hope that helps.

This is probably the slowest laptop in the world... I'm not in the slightest familiar with VMware. What is that? Any way to rectify it?

It is a POS laptop that require multiple reboots, occasional blue screen on start and I watched it need to be told that it is Windows XP via the start up 'blue screen options'. So it may very well be running an OS over an OS.

But I'm next to useless with electronics. If it needed me to replace its cam, sure. But any gadgety stuff I'm not very handy.

Is there a certain STAR program we need, does it have to be throat up to date? This seems like a fairly good deal to me.m
