Unhappy Rear subframe mounts have torn away from the chassis!

I was sorry to read Finny's post who has also experienced the same problem which I have now also had happen to me, the subframe fell to the floor and the rear passenger side air bladder also went pop, probably because the height sensor read the car was to low and pumped it to the max.

I am totally gutted after only owning this car for a very short time. Other problems included clonking vibrating and banging (replaced engine/gearbox mounts/propshaf bearing and coupling flex disc and a rebuilt gearbox.
It was driving great for a week until I pulled off at the lights and thought it was the diff going bye bye, no both rear mounts ripped themselves out of the car .

Thankfully or not as the case maybe the exhausts took all the weight with out letting the whole subframe hit the floor.

What more can I say, this is very very dangerous. MB service department and head office department has told me this has never happened before. But an MB tech who I know said they have had a handful of CLS 55 have this happen which is the same chassis .

I think a member was trying to go legal and I would sincerely wish people the best with this, but this is a serious problem that MB must address before someone gets badly injured of even killed, maybe thats why they don't want to address it?

I really cant afford to keep the car in fear of the next problem. Will the SBC fail the next time I am doing 100mph+ ???????????

this just happened to me on my 06 cls55. I am outside of factory warrenty and MB usa refused to cover any of the work. If anyone is interested in persuing this legally I am open to ideas. As my car has now been in the shop for 7 weeks getting fixed and we are at 15k in damage thus far.

You are not alone.

Happened to my friend's E55 as well. This is not as rare as they'd have you think.

Guys this is not acceptable, but unfortunately it does seem to be common now that I have been asking around and has happen to a small minority of people.

Both the CLS55 and E55 share the same chassis, which is also used for the models like the E220 diesel.

It does not appear that the 55k chassis part of the subframe mounts are not any different from the other models, although the chassis is very thick and has many layers .

If you don't have a warranty than a good body shop will be able to do the repair in a day by cutting open the single skin cavity section above from where the mounts locate and replace and weld new thread components back in.

Success almost a month,

Not a difficult job, but you need to have the guts to remove/cut a section of the single chassis skin inside the wheel arch to get to the problem and an experienced welder.

This has been strengthened a bit OVER THE TOP now and should be good for a few hundred more TQ.

Extra steel plates/spacers were welded into the chassis cavity with new threaded mounts, wax oiled, section welded back and stone guarded.

many thanks to Little G for all his help as this setup is now much stronger than factory.

happy to point anyone in the right direction as unfortunately MB probably won't?
