Fog light out in 07 e63... wanting to upgrade to HID
Since the bulb blew out and im going to be diving in to replace it, i figured i would ask if putting HIDs in the fogs is a good option. Seems like from reading previous posts about it, its a problem and it sets off the light warning.
Is there any HID kit out there that is READY to slap in and not set off warnings? i want to go with a 3000K kit, i REALLY like that yellow look and plus, the light actually cuts fog and illuminates the sides.
thoughts? appreciate it all!

It's basically a box with resistors to create the right amount of resistance. That place also has ridiculously cheap HID kits. The 3000k kit in the 63 housing looks great and is super-bright.

Now if it is done incorrectly, it is a fire danger and that would definitely be a problem, but many people have this modification, and I do not believe anybody's car has gone up in flames if it has been done right and installed correctly.... Mine are going on 30k miles strong.

thank you guys for the positive commentry and help!!! i will be checkin out all those options!
JOn2007: yes, i know they are illegal. they have been since they came out yrs ago, hasn't stop the population in buying them. I run them in ALL my cars if it did not come oem. even in my bikes. nothing compares to the quality of light output of the HID vs craptastic halogen bulbs.

I recently ordered two sets of HID's for my e55. Both were plug and play, look great and gave me 0 error codes.
I did the 6000k for the headlights and 3000k for the fogs and the yellow is so sexual![devil](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/devil.gif)
I orderd mine from http://www.execstudio.com/. They dont have their page finished yet but if you give them a call they will get you squared away.
The MB specialist is a guy named Peter.
They stand behind their warranty as well. I had an issue with one of the error code eliminators and a new one arrived at my front door 2 days later, no questions asked and at no extra cost.
The total time of install for the fogs took about 2 hours but could easily be done in 30. I was taking my time and having fun getting acquainted with the underpants of my car![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Let me know if you would like me to post a picture of how the setup looks and I'll try to get one up for you asap.

get projector housings for your fogs so you wont be that jerk blinding everyone on the road. hid bulbs need a sharp cutoff and these housings were meant for halogen bulbs which use no cutoff.

Anyone have pics of the 3k fogs?

The cut off is actually fine on the fog lights with the HIDs. If you look at the OEM housing there is a reflective retainer that regulates the light dispersion so it does not blind oncoming traffic. It is currently raining here but I will try to get some uploaded asap.
I converted from standard halogens, and the light improvement and output is noticeably better.
I dont have my receipt on me at present but I believe each kit ran me 110 shipped which is very reasonable. Be warned with these kits though - when using the error code eliminator, they installed the female adapter end backwards and the polarity is wrong - you simply plug the error code eliminator in backwards and your good to go.

I just went out and tried to take some photos with a point and shoot and they look terrible. I need to get my SLR for taking these photos so I can dial in the settings. I'll post them up anyways so you can see but I will get some better ones up tomorrow afternoon.
The light dosent look nearly as blinding in person as it does in these photos. When I have a better camera and better shooting conditions I will get some good shots.

Apeiron: Thank you for the pics, def gives a good idea of how they look on the benz. hmm... maybe i might want to stick with a regular color HID... what color best matches the headlights? anyone know???
as for the error cancelors, do these mount inline with with factory plug? then plug the HID into the cancelor?
99dirtybirdws6: lol... the burban was my first ride which i modified, back like in 1999. i put 22s on it when 22s FIRST came out. then i built a pretty neat custom Procharger kit for it. made 380rhp/450rwtq, still with tuning issues. blacked the entire truck, debadged, tinted dark, smoked headlights/tails/lenses. had 14 speakers, couple of woofers, 3 tvs, dvd player, etc... however, today, its not soo bad. lol... wheels are stock, no blower, no fancy stereo. i just use it in ****ty weather or when i tow the car or bike trailer. she sits outside and rusts. i feel bad, but her time has come. I will be buying a new tow rig next summer, prolly going to be another Suburban, but an 8.1L with a supercharger/turbo. we'll see...

I had 3k for fogs, and although it may actually be best for "fog driving" there were too many hondas and especially is300 or is350s out there with the yellow HID fogs, so I switched them and like the matching much better.
Here are 2 pics I just took today
