Question about brake pads.....
All right, I spent some time searching and can't seem to find a concrete answer. Its time to get new front brake pads for my 2004 E55, but I see there are a couple of different fitments. Some fitments call for 4 pads, and others call for 8 pads. I am looking at Akebono pads, and the EUR 983 pads that everyone seems to recommend comes with 4 pads, at least that's what the picture shows. The other set of pads(W0133-1791714) for an E55 shows 8 pads, but it says "Not for models with Code 951 Sport Package.. ".
I thought our front calipers took the 8 pad setup(4 per caliper), but I have no idea what the 951 sport package is(I'm assuming it's for an E500 and has nothing to do with our car). Weren't all 2003-2006 E55 AMG brakes the same? Which ones do I order?

It is true that your E55 utilizes 4 brake pads, for the 8 piston calipers whereas my E63 only uses 2 brake pads for the 6 piston caliper setup. I would look for a pad that was rotor friendly, the offers good fiction or bite, with a low dust. Akebono is highly recommended, also consider EBC, they come in yellow, red or green, depending on what your looking for. OEM pads would be the preferred ones, but has to much brake dust. Keep shopping around, please don't consider price, cheap pads aren't always better.

Thanks! I'm definitely going with a quality pad. The MB ones have horrendous dust, and I'm sick of it. I was thinking EBC or Akebono, as there is no way I am wasting $300+ for Porterfields to use them on the street.
Does anyone know what this "Code 951 Sport Package" is?

A Prius because I'm green
I got my Akebono's from Tirerack, they have the front set for $178 and the rear even though you don't need them but hey they are on sale for $120. They have them in stock and shipping is cheap at the rack. So roughly $300 depending on shipping and taxes.

Thanks for all the great replies guys, I'm going to look around a bit and grab a full set of EBC's or Akebonos. I read a lot of comments about noise and dust with the EBC's(on many makes and models), but I'm guessing muh of that was due to installation/pad bedding mistakes.

Just picked up a set of front and rear EBC Redstuff pads for $236.88 shipped to my door(and yes, they are the correct pads). To avoid violating any crazy advertising rules I don't know about, PM me if you want to know where I got them, though 10 seconds with Yahoo should get you there.
