Quote: Is it possible these cars are not build to spec to be equal, not to mention cars do break in better then others, some do turn into lemons after all, so how far off would it be for a stock 55 to trap 4-5mph higher?
Here is my theory on why and how I've gone faster over the past two years. When I 1st ran I just showed up in street trim, no race/pump gas mix , did not ice, did not reset ecu before running, I did not air up the front tires and I was trying to launch at to high of an rpm with under inflated rear tires

Fast forward two years I do all of those things that I didnt do before but the biggest thing now is that on street tires you have to launch carefully or you will spin, so on all of my trips to the strip I've had to be careful and now that I have drag radials I am slowly gaining the confidence that they will hook up allowing me to get into the gas MUCH quicker than ever before resulting in quicker and faster times. Since adding drag radials I've gone 2.45mph faster and .31 seconds quicker in the quarter.

and that's my theory!

Mine is lacking in complexity in the fact that
1) the car was bought new and has less miles then most 2010 E63s.
2) the car has been in the rain just once so it's more aerodynamic and lacks the extra weight from all that nasty global warming acid rain!
3) you took to heart the saying, if you ain't first you're last!
4) it's an AMG remember they called it a beast it's not a nickname drivers gave it!
5) It's German built, end of story

Quote: Was that the run against you? That would explain why I saw all the bad ones since I was in the box doing my thing. Still that's low trap speeds for a car spinning off the line when it's suppose to be faster. I wasn't impressed, an M5 we saw a couple sessions back was doing better and it's suppose to be a tad slower correct? I'm thinking way too much low end power for the guy but also what size tire does that thing have in the back?

I still think the car is over rated from the factory which wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary.
no he ran 117 once while we were at our cars and against me on my bad run that I mentioned early he only ran 13.6@115

Still not impressed, I want to be I like the car and want it to be fast. Maybe I'm being too picky on the car that it seems bad to me. I just see videos of the car pulling hard on some fast ones yet it wasn't picking up that much. Maybe it shines past the 1/4? Either way I hope the guy had fun with his family watching and wasn't *****ing like we were about the little things haha!

maybe he heatsoaked it because he ran quite a few runs. you know he was most likely thinking "Damn I should have bought a E55"

Quote: Congrats Hammer. That's awesome, I missed out but if the forecast looks good next Saturday I'm there. Glad to hear the rain held off until you guys were all done. For the doubters, I think Sacramento's ETs and traps are very close to other tracks. I just looked at other times posted on dragtimes and many of the cars are very close to where they should be:
http://www.dragtimes.com/Sacramento-...ackID-132.html
Thx Cahiil, I'm going to take a break and wait until Jan 9th to go back out!

Quote: I knew you'd do it this time out..... Congrats Jack Regardless of what anyone else says, this is a great accomplishment People look at your times and think it is not possible for you to go any quicker/faster in your stock setup, but I look at your times and think there is no way you can't go any quicker/faster. If you can drop that 60' time from 1.72 to 1.64, you'll hit 11.6 and maybe even high 11.5s Unfortunately, many on here don't understand how hard it is getting decent ETs at Sacramento (thanks to Alan of course, who makes it look easy every time out ) or they would realize how amazing this accomplishment truly is. Sacramento is one of the hardest tracks to get a good launch at let alone a record run. Compared to other tracks, traction is always an issue even on good days.

It's funny how no one questioned your ETs when you were running 12.3s to 12.4s, then 12.2s to 12.3, then 12.1 to 12.2s, then 12.0 to 12.1s..... and as you got quicker and faster, the hate got bigger and more intense. Now that you have destroyed both ET and Trap records, things will get really ugly for you Some still don't understand that most of your success, as others have mentioned, comes from driver skill (very important), determination, good weather/DA, and finally lots of practice learning your car and learning to optimize each run. Those records don't come easy; one has to keep trying different combinations of lots of different things. Sometimes one will find suggestions that work but most of the times one will go through many that don't. Finding a good winning combo is indeed difficult. And there is no "magic" button or substitute for taking your car to the track and keep trying.

I had the pleasure of sharing part of your journey as I happened to be there when you ran your very first run and almost all the way till you ran your record runs. For those of you who think his car is not stock or that he bought it used with an ECU tune , I personally saw his registration paperwork dating back to when the car was first registered, not to mention... the guy keeps his hood open all the time for everyone to see and although many have examined his car over and over, some continues to instill doubt

Lastly, I know that many on here don't consider a good negative DA a big factor, but I have enough data from my car and others to show that it is. I ran my cars at five different tracks: Famoso, Sacramento, LACR (before it closed), Fontana, and Irwindale (once) and at every track event, I had a minimum of 20 runs I have timeslips of my car showing 13.1s @ 109 mph at Fontana (+3500 ft DA) to 12.1s at almost 119 mph at Sacramento in -400 ft DA. Can DA affect cars that much? Yes, it absolutely can.

Sorry for the long vent Jack, but I am just getting slightly tired of reading some of the negativity towards all the record holders around here. Some to the point that they considered to quit the board all together Those record holders inspire many of us, work very hard to attain those records, help others achieve their own personal goals, and continue to share their experiences with us.

So Jack, Alan, Ahmad, Juicee, Sal, and other record holders..... congrats on your solid record runs, and I have no doubt in my mind that you will each break those records even further
This is only the beginning guys
Thx Mo for the kind words I will try for a new goal (11.73) If we would have had that slight Sacramento tail wind (yesterday there was none) I may have hit that goal yesterday

My Friend Jack,

We all knew you were close, it would take a better launch and some luck with the air.

Jack you are maticulous, a true enthusiast who stays with a plan and executes masterfully.

I learned a lesson from you on 12/05/2009. I continue to admire your determination and forward thinking. You are not stuck in a box and have done alot to optimize the car in stock form.

It took A LONG TIME,

BUT

YOU DID IT

Don't worry Hammer beats stage1 and stage2 cars on the same track on the same day. Your car is still quite a bit quicker but without the trap speeds. Do you really care that much about the trap speeds? Trap speeds don't win races, lower ET's and RT's do. Are you really that caught up in trap speed or is there a point you're trying to make? I'm just curious because I remember you making a similar comment in regards to Hammer's trap speeds in a different post . Just let it go and who cares what car traps faster, I don't. I would much rather have a quicker ET than a higher trap speed...IMO. Look at blackbenz, he holds the 55 record with a 125 mph trap but yet never complains about it. You want to know why, because he owns the quickest title and that's what 1/4 mile racing is about. If you want to measure HP try doing a 60-130 run with a performance box and we could really see who's faster up top. I'm not sure if you meant for your post to be sarcastic or not but that't the way I read into it and if not I apologize.

Everyone seems to act like we're some type of professionals when in reality this all over a Internet trophy..... Me personally, I do it to have fun and don't really care who's faster from other parts of the country. I just care about getting to the track and running my own PB's and trying to advance my skills as a driver.

Good luck with your times and I hope one day you end up with the trap speeds you want or need.

Out of curiosity, have you corrected your times to sea level? If you could post your times or give me the link I'm curious to see what your time correct down to. If you're racing at a track at a higher elevation than Sac that would automatically put you at a huge disadvantage. The only way to really compare cars through out the country is correcting times to sea level....IMO.

I was just going threw my time slips, that was done on aug 21.Im looking up the track and temp ect.

the track is 90ft above sea level and my DA for that run was 2008,corrected on drag times would be

11.262 119.89
11.363 118.89
11.434 118

If corrected down to sea level your car is really a beast and the ET's aren't even close when compared to Hammer's runs . We ran in -200- -400 DA that day but with high humidity.

might of been a little higher probably closer to 2200,it was about 85 with about 63% humidity

the temp was droping quick it went from 87 to 83 in an hour and I ran in between that hour so I would guess it was about 85 when I ran

is there a way to take my times da and compare it to say -200?

Thanks Skratch, even if you ran 11.5 here at Sac I am still a loooonng way from reaching your time. I think the best my car has in it at that track is 11.6x and EVERYTHING would have to be perfect to hit that type of number. My goal has always been to try and equal or beat Enzom's amazing run. I've thought about modding my car so many times but I believe our cars have enough power but traction has always been the issue. I thought that if I address that issue 1st I could really see what the car was capable of running. You can have all the hp in the world but it doesn't mean jack if you can't put it down. My new goal is (11.73) I need to practice my 60' and only time will tell!

I honeslty think you can hit 11.5,maybe try running it with really low gas and take the spare tire out ect.

I have 180 pulley,H/E,tune,filters and an 82mmTB about to get installed.

ps the date time ect was aug 21 6:22pm at new england drags

Could you be more specific on what doesn't make sense to you? If you look at his splits everything adds up in the ET's except for Hammer having a higher trap. When questioning the run you should explain your points instead of saying that doesn't make sense.

I can't explain it either, the DA was ok but there was a bit of moisture in the air.... If Max ever comes up to Sac and we have some good weather I believe he could run the same et and most likely the same or close to the same trap! Some stock cars are just faster than others and of course the drivers have quite a bit to do with it as well. I actually study video of my launches to see how can I improve them.

If were to do a full mod makeover that would be just about what I would do except I would add headers!

Hey Skratch, I'm going to move this over to the thread Mo started. I corrected you time to using smokemup's calculations, IMO much better than dragtimes.
