Will SL55 engine fit our cars?

I found an engine to replace my hydro-locked engine but its an engine from an SL55 from LKQ (Potomac German Auto) with 21k miles. My mechanic tells me that the engine might not work because the SL uses ABC(?) suspension while ours uses air ride and the pumps are different therefore I would have a hard time making it work. Can anyone here confirm this or have any feedback?

The insurance company declared my car a total loss from the hydro-lock unless I can find a reasonably priced replacement engine. The rest of the car is perfect and I am trying desperately to keep it from being totalled.

Thats what i said however my mechanic says I would have to replace the front plate(?) or something of that nature. not really sure why it wouldnt work so I was hoping someone here could advise. A compatible engine with 21k miles would be IDEAL...

haters crazy
It's basically the same engine. I don't see why any differences couldn't be swapped over

the abc has nothing to do with the engine
I would suggest to find a different mechanic

The AMG 55 engine will definitely work, Mercedes manufacturers these engine to fit in multiple platforms i.e. S55, SL55, E55, SLK55, G55, C55, although some 55 engines aren't supercharged, be aware of the that. it is my opinion that your mechanic isn't very knowledgeable, about various Mercedes.

x2 The bolt on accessories may vary from model to model..........but a 55k engine is a 55k engine.

The engine will work, you will have to use the engine mounts and oil pan from the old motor

Yes it will work I have a S55 engine in my E55 and I think it was only the oil pan and front timing case cover that had to be change IIRC.

My mechanic said the timing case cover swap is the main issue with the conversion and it would take approx 15 hours. Does this seem accurate?

I don't remember any change in the timing cover. I stuck a s55 engine in my w203 c class and everything works as from factory. Oil pan and pump are definitely different. Accessory components can we swapped over such as power steering pump, etc.

I'll have to check for you because I was told it had to be swapped but I think i remember him saying that it fit ok. I'll PM you when I find out for sure.

I guess you discounted my advise. Who is your mechanic?
15 hours for the total engine swap is about right.
15 hours for timing cover swap?

Here is more advise, spend a few dollars and get the information from the "horses mouth"
