Do you know the trunk clips or grommets I need?

Hi. I changed out my license plate lights with LED lights which meant I had to take out the whole housing of the oem's. In doing so I had to remove the trunk lid which was held on by two bolts and four or six snap in clips or connectors. Do you guys know what these are called or where I can buy them because two of them broke off? I asked mercedes and they said the only way I could buy them is if I bought a whole new trunk lid which I obviously do not want to do. Thx.

How does it look with out them? I took mine off to paint the chrome strip and one of the bolts on the end stripped and broke and it looks fine with out it.

It looks almost normal but the two clips that broke are in the center of the trunk lid that connects to the rest of the trunk so the lid is popping out about 1/4" and is not flush. I am concerned abut water possibly leaking inside the trunk lid and collecting or messing with the license plate lights.

By trunk lid, do you mean the plastic trunk diffuser?

I mean the part of the trunk lid which the license plate screws into and is held in by two bolts in the trunk. It is also the same piece which can be taken out and switched to the European spec to make your car look European from the back.

Yeah that is the part! It is held in by 4 to 6 six connectors to the main part of the trunk. Do you know which clips I need?

I only need 2-4 clips that is all. Nice one though. Get back to me if you know which clips on that site are correct for this trunk piece, thanks.

Since I had the time, I turned the piece over and took some pictures for you .

I hope that helps.

Has anyone found a source for these one-off clips that fit nothing else on the W211 chassis??

Here are some photos of the subtle differences in the trunk panel fasteners and the regular door panel fasteners for those that are interested. For what it's worth, I gave up on trying to find just the white or black clips and raided a few E-class cars at my local parts yard. I think I'll have enough to attach the panel securely after the weatherstripping replacement.

Trunk panel clips are the two clips on the LEFT in the photos. Photos 1 and 3 provide the critical differences in these parts. Trunk panel clips are shorter (probably irrelevant), but the heads (photo 3) are significantly smaller than door panel clips. It is for that reason that door panel clips will not work for the trunk panel without cutting down the diameter of the head. Even then, I'm not sure it would work well, however.

One last thing: The two clips for the trunk panel get a rubber washer (not shown in the photos) that is much thinner than the door panel fasteners.
