don't get me wrong I'd rather have a speeddriven tcu upgrade but coil overs would be cool and it may save some weight?

I feel like they would save a chunk of weight, dropping the compressor, reservoirs, and tubing..?

For some reason I can't let this go.

Talked to my bro about this and he called a suspension company that he often deals with. They are showing some interest so I will keep my fingers crossed.

So is this the real deal or not. I would like to have a spring set up on my car versus the air ride. It makes me nervous and does not handle worth a damn.

I remember my W211 E55- a floating speed pig!!!! I just got a W212 E63- what a difference in suspension/handling and steering too. Best thing they did was put steel springs up front.

A friends who is an MB tech said he knows the formula for coilovers on his E55....

He is/was getting ready to install his coilovers last time I chatted with him about this.

i love my air suspension. I had a lexus on coilovers and hated always scraping with how low my car was. My E55 is slammed but I can raise it at any time.

Now if you could have coilovers with a front airl lift like lambo's that would be sweet

That would be a nice feature but very $$$$$$$$$.
I dont really care for the air ride. This is supposed to be a performance car. But I came from driving BMW's. So to have all this power and no handling sucks. I may pull the trigger on some coilovers after i do some more reasearch on the geometry of our suspenstions. I contacted H&R to see if they could provide some coil overs but have not heard back from them yet.

It's very straight forward!! Just swap the parts from the non airmatic E350 over!! The only reason I haven't done this yet is my airmatic still good. You guys analyze this way too much.

I hope you're right Forrest (I suspect you are) When/If my airmatic takes a big dump I'm going to look into this. For now I'm just waiting and watching.

As soon as I'm out of warranty and my airmatic gives me any problems I'm switching to coilovers. It's just the logical thing to do.

Funny, lots of people saying it is a no brainer yet nobody has even attempted it.
Turning the ECU to E350 mode is NOT just for the airmatic, just like the ride height sensors are NOT all that feed into the airmatic system. The airmatic system is a part of the ESP and safety systems on that car. I'm in no way saying it can not be done, but it is a much more complex thing than a few are making it out to be. There is also no chance that such a feature would be added to any service tools that an MB Tech would have access to. Reality is that it would be much easier to drop this drivetrain into an E350 than it would be to drop the E350 suspension into the E55.

In the end, if it is done, it will take some type of external curcuit board to manage the various signals that would normally be pinging about to fool the system into thinking the airmatic is active and happy.

Just done the airmatic delete on my E500 , it`s easy and almost straight forward swap. After all parts installed, some coding work has to be done by star. (steel suspension has to be choosen and light sensors calibrated).
