Go 185mm or go home!

I live in Phoenix AZ and even with an upgraded HE, since I drive 100 miles a day to and from work, in the heat should I stay away from a pulley of this size? Was thinking of the 180MM along with an upgraded HE of course.
Are the HP gains that significant between 180MM and 185MM and should I risk the heat soak? Again it can get to 115F - 118F during the summer months here and I drive quite a bit in traffic.
Appreciate any guidance here.
Thanks.

I am but not at the moment. As headers are $2K+ and I can get a pulley with install for $1,200 for 40+ HP I'm going to do that next. Just trying to take mods in sequential manner, the most bang for the buck sort of thing. So HE is next, then pulley, then perhaps TB and headers.
Thanks.

You should look into the mezier IC pump, and a larger than normal heat exchanger. That's the best for the Arizona heat. Maybe even split the inter-cooler system with a separate reservoir so the heat exchange has its own system. It will help keep your IAT's low and your cool down time will be much faster.

I just purchased the mezerie pump for my system. I have bigger HE, split system with 60oz reservoir, t-stat and the CM30 is not cutting it.

Thanks everyone. I did upgrade to the Johnson pump and will be buying a much larger HE in the next 30 days. That should help a bit right?
Also just thought of this what about a lower thermostat for the E55 would that help?
Lastly how about the pulley, should I just stick with the 180mm upgrade and get a new tune once it's installed? Eurocharged will provide me a free tune if I buy the 180mm from them which together will net about 70+ HP and optimize everything.
Totally open to advice of course.
Thanks as always.

That is a great deal you are getting from Eurocharged. Go with that and keep upgrading your cooling.. T stat will help too.. There are no larger pulley`s available on the market than the 180mm.
The couple pulley`s larger than 180mm were custom made..

thermostat is a device that controls the flow of coolant from the engine to the radiator based on temp of the coolant. A 180F thermostat will open up and allow the coolant to flow to the radiator when the coolant temp in the engine reaches 180F. The stock MB thermostat is rated at a higher temp so essentially it will not allow the flow of coolant to the radiator until it has reached that temp.

ASP made a couple custom models (185 and 190) but they are all gone that I know of. I assume they will do custom work and make whatever you want for a price..
Not true, don`t start talking smack, just meet me at the track and we can settle this in the 1/4 mile..

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
I would say that 190 would be a good bump from a 180. Still...no one has produced any hard data beyond a 180mm. Who knows, perhaps even a 200mm would be the way to go. 200mm does have a nice ring to it.

Thanks everyone. I'll go with the Eurcharged 180mm, as they'll retune it for me for free along with their upgraded HE. I think it's a safe/conservative/sensible approach to mods given my 100 mile daily drive I do.
Last question where can I buy the PTE 160 Thermostat and -10C Star Mod?
Thanks, huge help here!

People are making way to many blanket statments over assumed heat gains and blower`s being maxed out.. The 185mm is still a very conservative blower overdrive ratio, in the scope of blower speed. The 185mm is only at a 2.05 to one ratio or 13120 RPM VS stock ratio of 1.72 to one or 11008 rpm.. These RPM`s are all at 6400 RPM on our engine. Peak rpm for just a peak second..
I know it is not the same blower or car but just for kicks,, Stock 2010 Shelby GT500 mustangs spin faster than my 185mm set up.. Their 2.60 nose snout upgrade pulley brings them to a 2.3 to one ratio or like 15,000 rpm @ 6400 rpm. They are all roots style but of course different blowers have different max rpm.. Some blowers on street cars are over driven to 18000 rpm and can loose up to 6psi above 4000 rpm.. Now that is no effecient or safe!
My 13K@6400rpm or 2.05 to one ratio does not bother me ...
So even a 205mm would still spin slower than a mustangs standard conservative upgrade. 205mm = 2.27 ratio and 14528rpm for a brief second at 6400 RPM.
The way I tell and am gauging my pulley effeciency (in general) ,, is by boost loss at 5000 rpm and up.. Of course , you also have to eliminate beltr slip and by pass dump but boost loss is the ticket for me..
Since very little to no info is shared on our boost, blower speed and pulley sizes, then the above info is what I am moving forward with for now..5 or 10mm here or there, is really not a big or wild jump .. It is just a %..small one , at that..
