Anyone else have to have a "belt tensioner" replaced on their E55?
I have a bit of a chattering noise coming from the SC bearing/belt tensioner area. Tech looked at it and stated he's almost sure it's the belt tensioner? This normal at 37k miles? Any idea of cost? why?
Thanks,
Thanks,

Same as stupid EMC (MB dealer) over here in Abu Dhabi, they said it is tensioner and they told me after you change it, it may come back again (they know it will come back). The problem is not in the tensioner specially if your E55 is before 2006 coz the design of the clutch is different.
You can search the forum for more comments and discussion about this. Update your clutch to 2006 and It should solve it, this is what most of the people here agreed on.
So, I don't advice you to change tensioner.

The tensioner pulley's do go bad. I would replace it with an ASP regardless or whether it's the source of your current problem. They're $125 and 5x's the quality of the MB part. They're spun out of a single piece of aluminum opposed to using the low quality cast aluminum MB uses. You're going to have to replace it at some point anyway, might as well save the failure and put a quality part on now.

Usually one of the pulley`s that are bad and I hope to have the first ASP tensioner pulley, on with pictures in a few days.. I am also working to get a better tensioner made for our car,as the stock tensioners will be going bad for a lot of us soon too.

I had the same chattering noise coming from my car, reported it to the dealer, retards replaced the tensioner pulley, problem still persisted, I did this video...

and had the dealer replace the idler pulley, problem never happened again.

my dealer changed the idle pulley and did not change the tensioner like I suggested -- the noise is still there. So, i think I need to change the tensioner --- but my belt is not getting eatten after the idle pulley change. Mine is a 2006
