Don't mean to hijack, but do you run the Motul Competition FF in the MB diff or their regular Gear 300?

Great price! Might have to get one of these as I'm having traction issues everywhere, not just off the line.

From my research on quaiffe diffs there are only 2 options for E class...W210 and C class use the Unit made for Sept 2003 and earlier and W211 and SL-230 use the unit for Post Sept 2003 ...

where or what is the OS Giken unit?? What is QDF9V??

Great question and I understand where you are going with it and it is definitely not a hijack bro!!.

Through discussions with Quaife, Motul and numerous race teams we believe that the best gear oil in the MB application is the Gear Competition FF.

I will substitute Gear 300 if requested.

What up bro!

QDF7V is for 2003 and older MB's

QDF9V is for late 2003 and up.

The Quaife is a gear driven LSD and the OS Giken is a clutch driven.

The OS is much better for road course racing compared to the Quaife but the OS Giken is $3500/list.

The OS Giken Type C(MB 04-up) and Type E(MB 03-down) is $3150/shipped.

Wow Bruce thanks for the clarification. Looks like the Quaife is the much better pricing and your price is fantastic, unfortunately already got mine a few weeks ago prior to this deal...but there's always more modding to be done down the read...keep me posted bro!

I hear ya on the OS Giken...I have 2 diffs for my race car both with clutches, modified ramp angles, and custom internals to set the lockup and breakaway...one diff is a 3.73 and the other is a 4.10 which is geared for shorter road courses with shorter straights to achieve a greater top speed through the highest gear by the breaking zone...since every straight pretty much comes of a corner I ussually try to choose which diff based on the distance and speed target running out the final gear for the longest straightaway on a particular track.

I've not run with a quaiffe before on the race car but am looking forward to it on the SL which is a street and occasional 1/4 mile car, but mostly a cruiser and highway vehicle...although I'm sure some of the student's whom I've instructed over the last 5 or so years on road courses had quaiffe's in their cars, at least some of them.

I have only replaced rear ends, what all is involved in the install. usual cost or time. sounds like a great add on for that price but would have to farm out the project so curious about these points.

thanks appreciate the great low price.

found this info all on my own, good pics https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...n-13-pics.html

The proper procedure is to use SDS and systematically deflate(inflate when the rear is back installed) the Airmatic(CLS/E) and it is really straight forward after that. I strongly suggest the use of an SDS system to properly do the install. Call my office if you would like a quick tutorial to see if you are up for it!

I can help any members or shops that needs any questions answered since I have personally done close to 2 dozen over the last 1 1/2 years.

OS Giken offers their differential for a few car brands but Mercedes wasn't traditionally one of them. As demand increased, I guess the project took flight. Developing the MB version of the OS-Giken differential was a project initiated by RennTech as they worked closely with OS-Giken throughout the research and development phase. RennTech also stocks these differentials routinely. The OS Giken differential is great by the way but it is a bit on the pricey side.

Does anyone know exactly which mercedes/ AMG cars these quaife diffs can be used on?

This is surprisingly the question Quaife the company cannot answer or will not answer.

My understanding is the QDF 7V fits diffs with the 2 piece half shafts and the smaller crown wheel. As used on the early E55 Kompressors.
Where the QDF 9V fits diffs with one piece half shafts with the larger diameter splines and the larger crown wheel (10.5 inch from memory).

The 04 onward CLK500's can use the QDF 9V.
The 03 CLK 500's use a diff with the smaller crown wheel and the one piece half shafts.

Does anyone have any further info or specs on mercedes/ AMG diffs as i think this will be useful to a lot of people.

I am with you. I called quaife and asked if it would fit the S65 and they were not sure. I called a few other folks and they told me the car has a Maybach rear end, so it may be a different part altogether. Anyone who can shed light, much obliged.

Whatever we're tuning!
^^^^^^^^Like Mo alluded to, OS Giken and RENNtech worked closely in developing the LSD for the 65 series cars. My OS Giken distributor has repeatedly tried to find out this info from the US office of OS, who tried to find out directly from RENNtech, and has had no luck. And RENNtech isn't helping out either!

I have a diagram that needs to be filled out with some very precise measurements once the 65 rear carrier is taken out of the car and the cover is removed to be able to cross reference the proper OS Giken Type to be used.

Anyone interested in this challenge?

Come on Dino, who is a S65 owner from Chicago! Get it done bro!

Quaife DOES NOT make a unit compatible with the 65 rear carrier!
