E55 then E63, now back to an E55
Quick E55 X-Pipe Exhaust Question
W a factory exhaust....
How much difference would replacing Resonator/Sec. Cats - with Straight Pipes/VRP X-pipe make ?
If hardly noticeable is the case then I won't do it....
And would it be better to have straight pipes closer to headers or furthur ?
(i.e. Flow from Manifolds to primaries, straight pipes, X-pipe, mufflers, tips)
TIA

difference in what, sound or performance? actually, nevermind...it won't noticably enhance either. save your money and do a true exhaust upgrade when you're ready.
*edit* just noticed you have a 63 and i was basing my opinion off of the 55k platform...so i really have no idea.

Thanks gentlemen. Was mainly referring to sound.
I am going to leave it alone.
And currently have a 63, but moving back into a 55 again....

on the 63 just removing resonator and replacing with x-pipe (or straight pipes if you want a little less refined rumble) DOES make a difference in sound.
i've heard an e63 with just the resonator removed and an x-pipe installed and it is exactly how i want my 55 to sound, nothing more, nothing less.
DO IT!!!
ps...didn't Lady AMG do this recently? try a search, i think she did.

if you're talking about an e55, don't waste your time...lol.
i have my resonator removed and no real difference in sound. going to remove my sec cats soon, though, that should net more sound gains.

i got talked into putting an X-pipe in place of the resonator by the muffler shop, thinking it will be louder.well it's not.

thread revival...i removed my resonator a while ago, and noticed very little by way of enhanced sound...
i removed my sec cats and went with straight pipes yesterday...so now i have no res and no sec cats and just straight pipes all the way from primary cats to mufflers.
def an improvement in sound at applied throttle (not much diff at idle) but i don't care for it too much...it sounds "muffled" and not smooth...i'm going to put an x-pipe in somewhere (not sure yet whether i'll put it near where sec cats used to be or where res used to be)...we'll see how that goes.

Save your $. The first mod I did is remove the resonator and literally you CANNOT tell the difference. I got quotes for a custom exhaust and it was around $1000. Believe me, I'm a cheap a$$ and thats the lowest I found for QUALITY custom work. Your best bet is to save up around a G and go on a hunt for a used Eisenmann or Meisterchaft. Both will give you sound that a custom set up wont touch with a 10ft pole.
