Help!! E63 or CLS63
Perhaps the wrong place to ask (E63 forum) but I am looking at two cars and really could use some expert opinions....esp being my first foray into AMG...long time BMW owner....
1. 07 CLS63, bk/bk, 23k KM (13.8k miles), factory warranty till May 2011, GM Protection Plus for 3 yrs/60 after, no vent seats, distr, linguis or tire press - $67.7....incl prem pkg options yes, very expensive here in Canada..
2. 07 E63, silv/bk, 20k KM (12k miles), factory wty until Nov 2011, ELW Mercedes extended wty for 3 yrs/80k after, incl vent seats, pana roof, linguis, tire press plus reg AMG prem pkg options $69.7
What to do...liked the CLS all along but not very many available...actually same for E63s....will be used as a daily city traffic driver....
HELP!!!

That was my first thought: I'll sell my 09 E63 for that price in an instant.
But the OP is in Canada. Different pricing, different market: CDN$, etc.. import duty, etc..

CAD$ is about the same as USD now. $69K you can buy a 09 E63 or even CLS63 in US. If you are in Toronto, why dont you find a nice car in Boston, New york or even Chicago area. Its not that far by driving with huge price different. In US 07 is about $50K...

It should be an easy choice, as the style of one should speak to you more-so than the style of the other.
I bought a (regular) E over a CLS because I liked the styling more, not to mention the extra efficiency you get out of the design.
It's as simple as this, if the CLS's design doesn't make you swoon over it, and force you to not even consider the E in the same stylistic league, then the E Class is the best choice. The design is more efficient, lighter, same chassis/build-quality (basically the same car), it will probably age better (more conservative and understated), and it's far more aerodynamic with a .27 C/D VS a .32 (although looks are deceiving in this case).

I park next to a really nice CLS, and it's helped change my opinion about those cars a bit. My issue with it is, for all the nice angles and elements, it's got too many flaws that I can't get around.
I'll just stare at both cars all the time, different angles and different days keep changing my feelings. Sometimes I feel it makes my car look like a Taxi, sometimes I feel like my car looks better. Two angles the W211 always beats the CLS in is the front end, and especially rear end, as the CLS IMO is weak in both those areas. Although the proportions are a bit too "Comic Book" style for my tastes, it's really hard to beat the CLS's side profile, that's where it usually hurts my soul when doing my "comparison view" VS the E.

I went with the w211 over cls + many other AMG models (long time BMW too) after sitting in the back of the cls. It is tight and I take kids and clients in my back seat. I'm 5'11" and my head was touching the headliner. If the driver was tall...forgedaboudit.

Some great opinions and thoughts....really appreciate it. I think this one said it best - the E63 will likely live on longer than the CLS which is already due for a change next year...
Deposit in while awaiting some final negotiations!!!
Now, need summers - 19s or 20s? Ride comfort is very important and city streets are sh*t so prob 19s? Would pref AMG but may need to look at Vossens or something...

My thought, the CLS over the E. I preferred the styling over the E, so that is what I got.
Sure it may be smaller in the back, but people sit back there just fine. I am 5'10'' and have no problem fitting in the car front or back. This is the rub, if you have to force yourself to pick something DO NOT buy it. You will regret it every time you look at it. You know what you want when you see it.

In W211 section people will tell you go W211 E class, if you post this in CLS section, the result will be different so all up to You.

Depends what is important to you. If you like the CLS styling over the more practical aspects of the E there you go. I was torn but decided on the E becasue of the very limited back seat room of the CLS....but I really love the CLS styling so it was a tough decision.

2006 E55 BEAST
I'll give you the quick pros/cons from my POV. My brother has a CLS500, I have an E55.
Go for the CLS if you are really in love with the looks, it's honestly the only reason to get it. It definitely has more "show" than the E class and it will definitely get noticed more often than the E. Even my girlfriend calls my car a grandpa car. In the CLS I always feel claustrophobic, whether I'm in the front or the back seat. My biggest problem with the cockpit is the placement of the mirror; no matter how I position my seat I need to bend over to see under the rear view mirror, IMO they should have placed the mirror on the dash, especially since there's never anyone sitting in the middle of the back.
The E class has seating for 5, it's lighter and it handles better. When I was picking my car it just seemed like the obvious choice for me, but that's because I wasn't in love with the looks of the CLS. Cars don't always need to make sense, sometimes it's just about love. Good luck, no matter what you'll be happy.

But trust me that the E63 actually handles pretty well, but with the stock rims. I've learned that the car handles way better then it feels. It doesn't give you the confident feeling of stiffer suspensions, but once you can get over that feeling, and trust the car's suspension, it does pretty well (be sure to get some sticky ultra performance summers with stiffer sidewalls and no squirm.) It'll be much more of a pig with big wheels.
btw, the AMG OEM wheels are made by Fuchs and are strong and well-built (esp compared to other OEM brands.)

CLS if your looking for more of a two seat user friendly vehicle, get the E if you want rear passenger space and more ease.
