DIY hidden charger

I had my phone charger in the rear socket for a while, but its a bit annoying and I didnt like the way it looked down there.

If you get the floor panel out of the compartment between the seats, you will see a brown and yellow/black wire, those run to that rear socket. I disconnected their harness to avoid accidentally frying the fuse, and attached these:

Oops, should've gotten different colors, oh well. I just checked continuity lots of times to make sure nothing got mixed up. On the other end, I hacked a 12V socket from a splitter and prepared it to get attached:

The socket, harness, and charger are now connected and tucked down:

Plastic floor is down, now the USB charger and iPod cables are coming through:

Looks cleaner:

Haha, I have wanted to do something like this for a while. Except I wanted to flush mount a USB port to the inside of the console. Well done sir!

Nice job Mike. It looks like you did the iPOD kit at the same time? How did that go?

iPod kit went in earlier that day, no too bad with proper tools, and Yacht Master's DIY on it was very helpful. The kit is also cheaper than most iPods, so that helped motivate me.

There are 2 small openings on it, on the sides towards the front. Get a tool down through the opening and press to the side while pulling it up through the round opening. That will release the clips and it will pop up.

A flush mount USB port would be sweet!

It's possible, just really expensive. Might be more worth while to buy a used COMAND from a newer E w211 with an SD card slot.
