E55, 911 Carrera, CLK350 Cab, Expedition - kid mover & huntin' truck
I've had quite a few black cars - still my favorite for showing off a car's lines. When I was looking for my E55 I wanted anything except black as washing the car 2-3 x / week to keep it from looking like crap was just too much. Black is a great color for a toy (my 911 is black) but not for a DD unless you have lots of time to keep it clean.

Don't change color - hugely expensive to do it right.

2006 E55 AMG
I have had both and both are so different. I could not say one is better over the other, but black is very hard to keep clean.

+1 have had both aswell and for some reason I think you can see the body lines and style better then black IMO. Which to me looks more nice. Then again, Black looks the best with a fresh clean and wax

So, please share your thoughts on both colors and what you think about doing a paint job. Has anyone here painted their silver ride to black? Any advice as to where to go and where NOT to go and why?

I was back and forth between a white E63 and a black E63, and ended up getting the black one for three reasons. The first was because the black one was only 12 miles away, and the white one was 1,200 miles away. The second was because the white one was $5,000 more expensive. The third reason was because the black one looked absolutely evil. My neighbor said, 'Man...you have to get the black one. It is just intimidating to look at. I have to agree with him on that. Now I will just go insane trying to keep it clean.

Black looks great when its clean but its a mother F* to keep clean. I had a black truck before I bought my silver 55, and told myself I would never get another black car, never! BTW I think the 2 best colors for the 55 are silver and flint grey metallic, Flint grey Metallic being #1

No matter how much I keep telling myself not to get a black car I still keep doing it. Ya, silver and white look somewhat clean all the time but when they are clean there's not much difference. When a black car is clean (and swirl free) it looks spectacular

I've owned both black & silver cars and do not plan on ever owning another black car again. Just too much work to keep clean, especially if you're OCD and want it clean all the time...your job is never done & you'll spend a fortune on detailing it all the damn time.

Nothing looks more badass than a clean black car, but it's not worth it IMO.

Also it seems that MBZ makes more black E-Classes than any other color...maybe it's just me, but I see them everywhere, and it seems the majority of MBZ for sale are black too.

White & silver (or graphite) from here on out.

Black is hands down the best color when clean..... I admit I've gotten so **** about my car mainly due to the fact that its black. Washing it and detailing it has actually taken away alot of my weekends.... car is my DD for the summer. i still love the sport effect of the color. it screams aggressive!

hahaha thats the truth right there! man, i am exactly like you. i love my black but man when a silver drives by me im thinking danm.... i shoulda got the silver but then again when that black is clean it looks wet. and getting the car painted will reduce the value of it by a ton if you ever decided to sell it again.

Black cars are impossible and while absolutely stunning to look at, I hate owning them.

I bought a Sapphire Black M6 2 months ago as the car wooed me over with it's stunning looks. I am a complete perfectionist when it comes to my cars and any scratch, scuff, or swirl drives me nuts. So suffice it to say that I am ready to go insane after only 60 days of owning it. This would be my 3rd black car and every time I get sucked into buying one, I wish I bought white instead as white also shows off the lines.

As to a color change, forget about it as a paint job of OEM quality will cost you more than the difference of selling your car and buying a black one.
