The Star fell off of my engine cover and here is my fix

You can't just buy the star, you have to buy the whole cover....yikes!
This is my solution...

I am going to PC the surge tanks red. If I don't get the 82mm TB and CF air boxes soon I will finish them in the same black as the covers. Def going to get the CF tubes asap. Might paint the SC as well.

I got the emblem from Chinabay and just attached with epoxy.

Great Memorial day project...lol.

Damn, Brian, that turned out really nice!! I was wondering if you had gotten that resolved.

That turned out really nice. In fact that might be my next mod. I will paint my air boxes too only because I cant spend that kinda money for the cf airboxes. I have the black and silver amg emblems on my hood and steering wheel so that would flow nicely.

Great job! And with the surge tanks pc that will be a great look.

Thanks for the props guys.
It means a lot, especially because it seems all I have are headaches when somebody else works on my car....lol.

I hear ya about the CF airbox, but might be able to justify because I would do the TB as well and it would be nice and PNP with the CF one.
But still....$1900 is a hit!

You are a better man than me. I love the look of the CF box but I am not sure that I will see enough gains from that and TB and a few other mods to justify the 1900 bucks. Heck intakes for my bimmers were never that expensive. Put I guess you have to pay to play. Is that the trunk emblem that you used?

Looks great

If you don't mind me asking, how much is the engine cover?

Ugh, been there. Really sucks buying the whole thing just for that.

Looks amazing man!! I gotta remember that!

Been a few years but I think my engine cover was either 70 or 100+$. Some type of rape like that.

Nicely done! Please post a follow up if you notice that the new badge can not handle the engine bay heat, or if it starts to yellow in accelerated fashion. I'm asking this not to give you any worries, but my engine cover star is peeling like a **** and I'll have to do something similar soon or repaint it carefully.

All valid concerns, and ones I have also thought about.
I will follow up with any negatives I find over time.

To be honest I never checked on cost of the cover, but my guess is that it would be much higher than $100. I saw a used one on ebay for $125

An E63 is $188.50 from the service department, so I'm guessing about $150 with my wholesale in the parts department.

A tech cracked mine at some point...Still mounts okay though...

Looks PHENOMENAL B - did you paint the cover yourself or have someone else do it?? Also, let me know when you're getting ready to do the surge tanks and maybe we can get a group discount from your place Also - where'd you get the red caps??

Thanks!
Painted it myself. I used high temp gloss black paint and put down about four layers, wet sanding in between. Tried adding a clear coat but it had a weird finish when done so I ended up putting another layer of paint. It looks good in person, but not perfect by any stretch...lol. We will see how it holds up, maybe a pro would have gotten better results.

I painted the caps the same way (only red)

Definately let you know about the tanks, as the more pieces we have the faster the turn around and the lower the price I just need to go up there (Beltsville, ugh) and see my guy in person.

Definitely would like to do something about the S/C as well, hate that pitted cast iron look. I was thinking about using that G2 brush on caliper paint. It goes on thick, could be worked into the crevices and will smooth it out a bit. Plus you add epoxy in the mix so it dries rock hard and should hold up.

Maybe next Memorial day the way work is going.

Well I am not refering to the check patterned top part, just the sort of discoloration and small little pimples associated with cast parts.
Although I hear ya.....don't want to reduce the cooling. I think Amg Fan painted his....wondered what he used. Ceramic based header paint might be the ticket.
