Just purchased an E55 shop car

We just bought a 2005 E55 shop car. We are going to do a lot of baseline testing with the car and we are going to write up all the results on our blog at www.rpmnorth.com. We are also going to do testing after each modification so that everyone can see what the real world results are with all the products that we install. We are going to try and address every area of the cars performance.

I am hoping to get some feedback from you guys about any particular ideas that you may have about our tests and the upgrades that we should use so that we can cater this project to what the community is looking for.

Before we do anything with the car we will take detailed pictures of the condition of the car how we bought it. The car was bought sight unseen at a Manheim auction in Las Vegas. It is black on black with a pano roof, has 60K miles and it's a 2005.

Purchase price was $24,750.00 and by the time you add the fees and the transportation costs to get it back to our shop it is costing a little over $26,000.00. We are going to detail all the costs associated with this car. As soon as we get the car we will be putting a warranty on it and then we will be going through the car to clean it all up.

Our first round of testing will be the stock car as we bought it and it will include dyno testing, 1/4 mile, 60-0 braking and 200' skid pad test. I would expect these results a week after we get the car.

Cool beans. Look forward to following the progression. Thanks for sharing the origin and purchase price. Let us know what you do for the warranty as a lot of us are in the market.

Just noticed you're in LI. I was in Huntington this morning...

Curious about:

Throttle body shaft grind results
Secondary cat delete results
S55 Intake snorkel results

All the little things that people try to do. We know headers work, we know pulleys work - try the easier stuff before you go all out

just my .02

Isn't the warranty voided when you mod the car anyway? How about you get some Volk TE37's made for our cars!

I am sure that the car will end up with a set of Volk's although we have not decided which ones they will be yet.

The warranty gets voided as soon as you modify anything including the tire size but we have a modification disclosure in this warranty that adds an additional $250.00 to the warranty cost and that covers us for certain modifications. A lot depends on how you deal with the warranty company as to what will be covered, just like the Mercedes dealer. We have quite a bit of experience with this particular warranty so we are pretty confident that we will not have to many issues with it.

I will detail any repairs that are made to the car as we go along and I will also detail how much of those costs are covered by the warranty company. I think you are going to be surprised as to how much work will be done under this warranty. If you have it you may as well use it.

OK, here is the latest update. We were suppose to take delivery of the car Friday, it didn't show, then Monday, didn't show, Tuesday, same story so we should have the car tomorrow, we will see. We were not going to start purchasing the car till we got it because we wanted to see the condition of everything first. we have all the parts for a tune up but that is about it.

While sitting around frustrated waiting for the car to arrive I couldn't hold off any longer, I have the bug, I need to order something, WHEELS.

Today I ordered a set of 20" VOLK TE37's. We should have them shortly and cant wait to see them on the car. The only part I have left to order for the installation is tires.

So, basically, we don't have a car yet but we have wheels on the way.

How are you getting Volk TE37's shortly? Unless you mean 90 days. Come on, hook us up!

I should have them in about a week, I will post pricing (they are pricey) and pictures after we get some tires mounted.

I think these wheels work well. These look like they might be 20's, but not sure. Just a pic I found. I like the color of this car and rim combo...

I know they are pricey. 18's go for about $3200. What width/offsets can you get? I've been holding off because everyone says it will take about 90 days to get!

OK, we just got the car, finally. I washed it and the car looks great. The interior is perfect too, I am so happy.

It is optioned really well to. The car has keyless go, Pano roof, xenon lights, dynamic seats, and I am so glad that my I-phone works with the factory radio (big+). The windows are already tinted perfectly for me and the car seems like it was never smoked in.

Driving impressions-
I only drove it to the gas station, it won't be registered til tomorrow. Car has a slight vibration, pulls to the left, sounds like one of the pulleys may be making a little noise, brake pedal is low. Those are the first things noticed before really driving it.

We will be putting the car on the dyno before the end of the week. We will also be doing a 60-0 MPH brake test and a 200' skid pad test before we do any mods.

Next week we will put the car back on the dyno after doing a full tune up on the car, let's see if we make any more power for renewing some parts at 60,000 miles. We will be using factory components in the tune up.

The calipers are right there where they should be (sorta...).. not sure how you missed that. In terms of "Low Brake Pedal", these are brake by wire, so the issue may be the pump that supplies the pedal feel. I think it is air.. but I don't know for sure. Maybe a few 60-0 stops will bring it back to life.

Sounds like a great car and a great deal! Looking forward to some real world mod data.

I would love to see a comparision between 178mm, 180mm, and 185mm pulleys.

Also, the 180mm vs 182mm Throttle Body.. Shorty vs. Long Tube Headers

Resonator delete.. Exhaust.. H/E.. my god, what more is there?
