E55 Oil Change Today

Just completed the oil change today. Wasn't a big deal. Went to the MB dealer and got the following:

1. 1 MB cotton filter
2. 9 quarts of Mobil 1 0w-40
3. 2 new drain plugs with copper crush washers

Total cost - $96.00

Raised the car, drained both sumps (for the record there is about 1.5 quarts in the front sump). Put in both new drain plugs and copper washers. Lowered car, dumped in all 9 quarts into the oil filter housing, put in new filter and rubber o-rings. Started car quickly, checked oil after about 5 minutes, oil level says "OK". Reset Service in dash, recorded oil change in owners service manual.

Very easy job. Mercedes says you must remove and replace both plugs to change the oil on this motor. Now I know why, and would never use an oil extractor.

Jacks or ramps. If you search, you can find some long and low ramps that can fit our cars... If not, ask a local machine/welding shop to make a set for you... If you raise the car and use ramps, you have enough clearance to get the job done... I have a lift though :-)

I have a lift, so it was relatively easy to get under the car.

I used to use ramps, so all you do is run some 2ft 2x6 planks of wood up onto the ramps to ensure a smooth incline and no spoiler contact.

Your experience is identical to mine. Not hard to do, and a great way to get to your car and feels great saving a bundle doing this at home.

His wife crazy
My indie does it for $92.00, which works for me, as I barely have time to drive the car, and no time to crawl under it.

A garage full of unused, hand and power tools because I'm a work-a-holic.
