Hoosier Drag Radials

I was wondering if any of you guys run your Hoosier drag radials on the street. And if so how do you like them? They are not street legal and basically look like slicks with 2 grooves. They also arent recommended for highway use. I've used the Mickey Thompson Et Street Radials on the street and they are great and street legal! I just got a pair of Hoosiers and debating putting them on or going with MT's again. I probably will put the Hoosiers on just to test them out. They look stickier, softer sidewall, and 7lbs a tire lighter!

Hi, Ahmad!

I had a set of Hoosier Drag Radials and would drive on them between home and Milan Dragway. That's about a about a 40 mile round trip, mostly on a 70 MPH freeway. Because of the sidewall flex they weren't a lot of fun at speed or around corners but they were terrific launching from a dead stop, as you would suspect.

Take care!

I've used both the Hoosier's and the MT's and prefer the MT's because they're a lot more street friendly and last a bit longer. The Hoosier's are pretty much a track only tire.

I run MT's full time on my '68' Camaro and Cobra replica and have for years. It's the only way to hook up on the street. On regular tires, I couldn't win a race due to tire spin all the way through 3rd. gear. With the MT's, it's chirp and gone.

Are you using the bias-ply tire now?
Mine definately wobbled at high speed , driving on the street was no prob as long as you stay under 75mph(fwy).

Heck if you own the Hoosiers , just take em out for the day and see how they feel. My MT's have life still after many track passes and some street use.

Have you tried the ET Street Radials? They seem like the better street tire in terms of stability and tread life

Hi! Long time! How's the SL running? You are one of the few people to beat me at the track and you were even on street tire Thanks for the info, thats what I was thinking. The tires seem so soft, almost like a bias ply. The MT's worked great for me on the street. Guess I will just mount them and have some fun then switch back to MT Radials. I have 2 sets of CCW rears, one for radials for the street and the other with bias ply for the track Hope you can make it back out to MIR sometime in the fall/winter!

Thanks for the input. This is pretty much what I expected and I'm glad you guys chimed in to confirm

I have 2 sets of rear CCW's. One has bias ply MT ET Streets and the other had ET Street Radial (which are being replaced with hooiser radial) for the street. The MT's were great on the street. I know what you mean about the wobble, I had to drive home on bias ply from Chicago after a tire blow out lol Yea I own the Hoosiers but they arent mounted yet. Once I mount them you can forget about getting any money for em lol. But I will just to have a first hand experience.

LOL. Well you made certain that would never happen again!

I always keep an eye out for the MIR runs. I was actually in MD for the event that was scheduled this past spring but snowed out. Maybe this fall....

Hi, Badm. Motorwerks in Commerce Township is the leading tuning shop in the area. They handled most of the mods on my car as well as several other AMGs.

I occasionally head down to Milan for their Test & Tune events. The track prep is usually good and it's a nice group of folks who run their cars there. If you want to meet up at Milan sometime just give me a shout.

Hoosiers are seriously wicked on surface streets, some full riced out "Slow Furious" fart can abomination tried running me light to light, I pulled easy 2 bus lengths in (1) city block on 'em! His face @ next light was priceless & speachless just shaking his head.

Shame they suck @ speed, freeway wobbles over 85ish... Also sux they have to come back off tamara morn...

Def trying them as soon as these are worn out after a few REAL 1/4 passes...

I have a rear CCW drag pack for sale . 4 passes on them . 16inch CCW 's with MT DR's . the 16inch rim barely clears the break pad on the 63's but its perfect for the 55.

PM me if interested .

i've driven the hoosiers on the street but just to and from the track. you're right, they're not recommended for highway use but they (mine) do have a dot number which i would think makes them street legal.

You are correct that they are marked with a DOT number which is why I bought them. The more I read about them the less I believe they are street legal though.

I took a ride in Chris's suped-up challenger one time on a street near the Famoso and right after 90 mph things started feeling very floaty At the time I attributed that behavior to the high hp that car was producing (700 whp) but I now think it was because of the hoosiers. In comparison, Mickey Thompson's ET Street Radials were much more stable on the street.

I can vouch for the MT ET Street Radials being stable on the street even at high speeds. The Hoosiers feel softer and stickier to me. Anyyone have a new set of 255/50/16 MT ET Street Radials and wanna trade for a new set of Hoosier Radials? lol I think the Hoosiers would perform better at the track. But I want MT Radial for the street
