Want to buy a E55 but didn't feel that fast!?

I own a 2003 M3 and want to sell that and get a 2003-2005 E55. I test drove a 05 E55 today but wasn't impressed by the acceleration compared to my M3, is there something wrong with the E55, I thought it would suck me through the seat!

Most likely has a bad coolant pump, otherwise you'd be stuck to the rear window. Simple fix.

dead pump and summer weather ftl.A well running 55 will put a smile on your face.

I pulled like 5cls racing a brand new m3 not to long ago so if you e46 feels faster, you drove an e55 with the s/c NOT ON lol

I owned an 03 M3 and now own an E55. The M3 is SLOOWWWW compared to the E55. If you didn't feel the difference, find a different E55. Heck, the E55 feels quicker than my 996TT which would put the M3 into the weeds.

I concur, you definitely didn't drive a well-running E55 if the acceleration didn't put you back in the seat. I still smile every time I punch it. It's funny, because I know I am going to win about 95% of the time, but my adrenaline still pumps when something actually worth running pulls up next to me or if I just want to show off... And I beat M3s all day long!

I took a buddy for a ride in mine just the other day (was in town from L.A.)...he drives a 911 4S.

After a 0-80 run...his comment: "That hurt"

Im not posting bogus questions because I have a M3, Im asking the question to see if anything could possibly be wrong with the car that maybe the dealer will fix before I plan to buy. I was going to take a 2003 E55 for a test drive but the dealer had it in showroom and wanted me to sign this and that and the shape wasn't as good as 05. Maybe the 05 was "Flashed" but I had no other E55 to compare to.

Sorry...no one actually answered your question. And upgraded pump is $175.

http://www.eurocharged.com/index.php...mart&Itemid=66

Stock Bosch Pump ~$150.

Labor...it can be DIY...but I think a shop would charge about $200 (I'm sure others have a more accurate cost from having it done).

Thank you very much for your help. I just read a post of someone with a similar problem and it was the aux cooling pump. I will call dealer tomorrow and mention that to them. Thanks again!

Most likely it does have a bad pump, mine was dead when I bought the car. However, are you sure it wasn't in comfort mode? If it was you'll be starting in 2nd gear, and if your test drive was mostly low speed it definitely won't feel that fast.

If you have a little more budget, buy a 04+ stay away from 03.
E55 is way faster than M3...

on the e55 or most AMG's... with kompressors or turbos.. you won't get full power in 1st, 2nd and most of it it 3rd..ECU really limits full boost output or manages torque as well.

Also the suspension is soft.. and car is heavy and quieter.

I can tell you my modded C32 feels faster than my E55 from 1st to 3rd gear.. but its just the feeling you get due to stiffer suspension, smaller and lighter vehicle.

last.. the transmission is slow. even in S, Manual mode.. therefore.. this car shines from a complete stop or anything above 3rd gear on the freeway..

1st gear rolls are useless and 2nd gear rolls are preferred compared to the 3rd gear.

The pump does not throw any codes and you won't know is dead until you perform data logging or you can feel the supercharger not engaging.

Yea stay away from the 03s they will be a money pit. I test drove an 03 and it felt horrible it wasn't an AMG though, but you will be replacing struts and SBC pumps SC pullies all kinds of high dollar items that will ruin the MB experience for you. I ate up a e46 M3 in my car and my car will get tossed up by a E55 so there is definitely something wrong with the car you drove.

I was in sport mode doing about 30mph and pinned it and I didnt feel the boost,It felt sluggish. I've had two previous S/C cars and I could feel and hear the S/C.

I didnt get over 60mph but it should still push me back in the seat. I mean I pushed it to the floor and it felt like the tranny was in 4th gear and slowly accelerating. And In no way am I saying my M3 is faster than an E55 Im not a fool Im saying for my first test drive It didnt feel as fast or quick acceleration for the HP so im thinking the cooling has failed.

Honestly who cares what's wrong with it find a 05 and get the updated nav/telematics and less issues. The money you save buying an 03 will end up coming back to you with the high dollar repairs.

Also how is the Airmatic ride suspension in the 05 are they a problem. And what questions should I ask the dealer about the car or what should I look for. Heres a link http://www.autotrader.ca/used_cars_C...v=Ontario&r=40

I never said I was buying the 03 just wanted to compare the car for acceleration to determine if the 05 had a problem.

96 and 08 911 turbos
eh, they aren't anything that impressive in stock form.

should have more torque than your M3, but its not like you are gonna **** yourself when you get on the gas.
