In manual mode the car will not shift unless you shift it, The only time i think it shifts is to downshift if your going too slow for that gear, i.e. coming to a stop sign.

Nah dude, i have an E63, and in M mode, it will not shift on its own.

The e63 has an 7GTRONIC tranny with AMG Speedshift or some bull.

the e55 does not.

what your thinking of, is just putting the tranny in S.

THIS IS NORMAL. the E63 has 3 tranny modes, C for comfort, starts in 2nd gear and tries to shift below 2k rpm.
S for sport, i guess, that starts in 1st, and shifts above 2k rpm, depending on throttle, but the S mode will downshift for you if you punch the gas.
But for the E63 which has also M mode, which im guessing manual, The car starts in 1st, and won't i repeat WILL NOT shift into the next gear unless you do, its meant to hold that gear. Say your driving and your in 3rd gear, say your at 40mph. if you had it in S mode and floored it the car will downshift into 2nd and take off. but in M mode, you are still in 3rd gear and you can floor it in 3rd and stay in 3rd without downshifting, like a regular manual could.

I don't know if the 63s are different then the 55s, my 63 doesn't shift in M mode unless I hit the paddles. Thats why its called Manual Mode?

You guys have e63s comp different trannys.I Know its supposed to be in M and I only brought this up becasue I have seen 2 e55s in M that wont hit the rev limiter and mine does.

Mind you my car is modded to **** and I think my rev limit is also raised

edit Iv also hit the rev limiter in s mode in second gear at the track!!! that was after a tcu adaptation reset tho

Im talking about if the car shifts at redline, not while putting around.

Try this, put your car in M1 and floor it all the way to redline and see if it shifts to M2 or stays at 7000rpms bouncing off the rev limiter

mine shifts automatically
i notice it because sometimes i shift too late 1st to 2nd --- and when i shift I end up in 3rd --- So, the car must have automatically shifted into 2nd before i was able to do it -- and when my slow hand did shift -- my car was already in 2nd -thus it upshifted me into 3rd.

I thought "Manual" meant....umm, manual operation? Why would it upshift on its own, wouldn't that defeat the "manual" mode's purpose?

yup - but it can be a safety thing --- i have a tune and it shifts at the higher rpm automatically----- i am not sure but i think it would not before the tune

Mine will upshift at redline in M mode. It will also downshift if you floor it and depress the kickdown switch. I can put it in 5th gear at 55 mph in M mode, and push the pedal right to the switch and it'll stay in 5th gear. However, as soon as I depress the switch it'll downshift to 2nd.

It will also automatically upshift to 2nd gear early if the tires are spinning hard in 1st gear. M mode is a joke and completely useless as far as I'm concerned. The ONLY thing it is good for IMO is putting the car in 3rd gear at like 30 mph and then pressing the go pedal right up to the switch so you get 100% throttle but stay in 3rd gear, which is pointless anyways. I guess it's useful for heating the tires too, as long as you're careful not to hit anything close to redline. In normal driving though I really don't see a use for it.

I guess my tune is the reason.my car in m is a true manual.,it wont shift on its own at all and will rev the engine all the way up to around 6800 toms and then i get fuel cut and a rev limiter kicks in.

when my car was stock it used to shift on M but after i modded it and Jeremy tuned it. it doesn't shift, it keeps on the redline forever. which i like it more.

on S ot C, it will change by itself when reaching redline.

i like it this way.

Depends on the year Skratch. My 03 shifts on it's own at redline. Totally normal and nothing to worry about.

Forgot when they made the change to um.

There was a trans update that should have been done by the dealer that would make the car shift up in M mode by itself. Some of you have it and some of you dont. It also turns the center screen into a blinking red shift light.
